Hi Folks,

I just came across a case (6-#10 cans) of Honeyville whole powdered eggs, that from the lot# look like they were canned in 2008. I had them in a closet since probably 2009.

The label says 5-10 years shelf-life in a sealed can.

These are 10 years old now...I am looking for knowledge/experience/opinions on whether these could still be good ?

Also wondering, if I open one , are there any things I should be looking for to determine if they are safe to eat ?

Thanks in advance

peace

I don't know the information you're looking for, but I did find a phone number for Honeyville for you. 1-888-810-3212. I hope this helps! The best information you'll get on it will be directly from the company who makes it!

As long as the cans are intact, the contents should be good nearly forever. As long as the cans are not swollen, or any seams separated, the contents will be preserved. After about 10 years you might possibly get less flavor but it won't hurt you to eat the contents. Canning is the safest, most reliable method of long-term food preservation.

call Honeyville. their customer service has always been outstanding for me. I would imagine if they were stored properly that they are still good. I use their powdered whole eggs a lot. fine product. highdesertranger

Thanks for the replies...I had been thinking that they will probably be good for quite a while since these are sealed cans that have no damage and have never been hot, etc.

If I end up calling them I'll leave a follow-up post here...

Thanks
