Help with wiring

Recent bought a 12v Ventilation van, It has a red and a white wire. I'm assuming the red wire is connected to the positive terminal of the battery. But where do I contact the white wire? 

I want to make sure it's working before i install it permanently.

Read the documentation that came with it.  One wire is +12 volts, the other is -12 volts.  If you assume which is which and guess wrong you just wasted a fan.  The electronic speed controls are intolerant of reversed supply voltages.

it definitely has electronics because it has a remote. that's weird it doesn't say in the instructions.

In 12v DC systems red is a standardized color for positive power. On the ground side (negative) black is the standard color, but white is sometimes used.
