My name is Mike, divorced 4 yrs and
I Work as a contractor in the aviation industry(aircraft mechanic). I'm looking to take the leap and go full time car  camping. I've been wanting to do it for years now, my occupation is perfect for it. I don't need to wait to get a rv to be free now. Im currently in the tri cities, my place of birth is Philadelphia......(but i claim Arizona...lol)....my next job asignment is in Tucson on the 14th of sept. My plan is to venture out this week, hang around the nw a bit, then head down to Tucson. I do have unemployment and VA disability. Hopefully I can trade my car in for a van soon. Good to meet everyone. I'm glad I found this community..........blessings

I have kids in tri cities... visiting now here in Minnesota. Yeah, you should be good to go with your profession. Go for it... just make sure your air conditioning is 100% ok. Ha

Car camping is great! The lack of investment in a specialized rig means no commitment and maximum freedom to chase your dreams down the road. I've found it works best for a more restless lifestyle...i.e. those who rarely spend more than one night in the same place. I've averaged 70 miles a day for months at a time living out of my Ford Explorer. Just before sunset I'd begin hunting for a place to park for the night, using my GPS to explore quiet back roads in search of a secluded pullout. In the East, with lots of trees and very few free campsites, stealth camping is a necessary adventure. In the West, with fewer trees and more fences, I've found it best to stick to public lands.

Will you be tenting or sleeping inside the car? The latter is definitely more convenient, flexible, and impervious to foul weather. But if you can't sleep fully stretched out in your car, I would go for the tent.

You will soon learn that there is no 'everyone' here. Yes, some folks caravan. Some caravans are very tight, others break apart and reform in different confgurations. You can do it anyway you want, it's all good.
