Hello,
I'm downsizing from a house to a 25ft travel trailer and moving from South Carolina to Nevada. From there, I hope to save and trade up to a class c, with a toad I may or may not tow with me when I travel.
For the last few summers my husband, dogs, and I have camped in a converted cargo trailer in the summer. We camped in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Maine- it was great fun.

Hi Valerie and welcome to the forum. Best of luck with your plans, and I hope you have some fun adventures.

Thank you- the sorting of stuff is a much bigger chore than I thought it would be!

Thank you, there are some sites to see, but I think the journey might be a bit warmer than I would like!

Welcome to the CRVL forums Valerie! Sounds exciting! Keep us updated on your progress.

I edited some of your posts to eliminate the quotes. Please do not quote from posts directly above yours because some of our members access the forums with their phones and/or have limited data. Also if you do quote cut the quotes to include only the pertinent information. Thanks!

To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips & Tricks" post lists some helpful information to get you started. We look forward to hearing more from you.

At least you won't have the humidity of the east coast. If you are going to be mobile, go up as high in elevation as you can for the summer.

For me it was hard to start but I'm gaining speed.     I found these to be helpful first steps:

  • stop buying new stuff.  Since I made the decision earlier this year I have bought 0 (zero) physical objects that will not be going on the road with me.
  • de-duplicate my stuff.   More than one of a thing?  Keep the smallest/best one for the road and donate the other.
  • get rid of things that are broken and that I still have not fixed
  • place things to be donated or given away in a spot by the door.  Take them to the charity thrift, etc, 1x/week

Welcome! We were in the same position last year but had a whole house, barn, workshop, and outbuildings to empty and sell or give away. The deadline of 6 weeks for the house sale was my motivation to get it done! LOL

Luckily our 24 ft RV was sitting in the driveway so I could gradually add all the things we needed and that would fit. Kitchen stuff, clothes, books, bedding, food, and so on. I knew everything else had to GO! Maybe you could dedicate one space in your apartment to do the same.

It's very freeing to get out from under all that stuff! It's heartwarming too to give it/sell it to people who need it.

I had a mockup of my van in a room, marked out with blue painters tape on the floor. It was useful for understanding the size I'd be working with.

I agree, and I must not be the only one downsizing in the area. My local Goodwill store asked me to take my next donation somewhere else because they were full!!

That is so funny! This morning I used washi tape and re created the bed of my truck so I could visually see how things would fit!

congrats on selling your other trailer and your planned moved out west. what part of Nevada? highdesertranger

My deadline is looming fast! I plan to hit the road June 30-July 1. I, too, have my camper in the yard, so I put all my clothes in it and then took them out and sorted more of them for donating. Then I did the same for the kitchen. I still have things to donate out of the kitchen, but I know what I'll take with me.
I am worried about the weight of the trailer, so 90% of what I'm taking with me will be in totes in the bed of my truck. I was quite pleased with my self when I was able to downsize my classroom materials to 2 totes! Mementos. Have been hard, but I just donated a bunch today.
Although I've started on the garage, I need to get more done.
Overall, my house is looking really empty and most of the rooms are empty, and we are already sleeping in the trailer..
sounds like great mi xs think alike! I am closely mirroring what you have done!
