I'm Jackie and I have been reading and dreaming about living in a van for many years now. I am getting ready now to buy a class b or conversion van and start the process. I would love to connect with the van dwelling community now so I can get some sage advise on a few topics like safety, stealth parking, travelling with pets, etc. I especially would like to get some advise on overcoming my fear of not being handy or technical enough to manage the systems in a van such as solar power, inverters, electrical set ups etc.

Today I came across a Chevy Coachmen with 128K+ miles for 3500.00 and was wondering what some of you may think of this for full timing. Is 128K too much milage? Am I getting in over my head? Your thoughts and insights would be greatly appreciated.

Here is a link to the van:
http://www.easybuyautosales.com/vehicledetails.aspx?vid=186056183

I look forward to getting better acquainted with everyone!

Thanks in advance,
Jackie

It looks good but take it to another mechanic and get an opinion other than the selling vendor!

Looks nice, but you mentioned stealth, and IMHO this does not look very stealthy to me, it cries, I'm inside and sleeping on your street/parking lot.

I agree that the stealthiness (if that's even remotely a word) is lacking! I would definitely take it to a mechanic prior to buying. Any opinion on 128K miles on an engine?

Thanks everyone!
Jackie

Hi Jackie
welcome this is a great forum and lots of cool helpful people have only been in the van recently myself
that is a nice van those engines are great if looked after check to see if they have a service history or as mentioned get a mechanic
depending where you live it may not matter if its not so called stealthy mine is blue with white extended top and I am in Seattle area I think where and how long you park for matters more
I have been using Walmarts, pull ins by rivers, industrial parks, and also some street places where i am going in late 10.30 or later and leaving early 4.45am I go straight to my local YMCA gym where i exercise have a hot shower drink some free joe and use the wi-fi
good luck
and ask lots of questions
there are no stupid questions only unasked questions
Royz

Thanks Royz for the vote of confidence regarding the Coachmen. I am plan on looking at it tomorrow. I post tomorrow the particulars. Thanks again everyone for your support! I hope to be van dwelling in the near future and will be reaching out to you all in the interim.

Jackie

I have been thinking on the high tops. Even up here in Ontario Canada, they are common, people do not give them a second look even in the summer. So, Hide in plain sight, now there are problems with the plain white vans up here!
