I first started reading Bob's site about 1 month ago. I found it using a Google search of Urban Nomad. I have always had a little Wanderlust I guess, but I have never indulged it.
I had a favorite Cousin who was a Leather Tramp all his life. A great Piano Player, and he used to visit us once a year . I always liked him.
My Grandfather was a Railroad Tramp during the Great Depression and made it all the way to Alaska, before settling down In Deridder ,Louisana.
I just turned 60. Blue Collar worker .I have been a little perplexed because I couldn't figure out anything I want to do after I quit working full time(yes Im still blessed with a full Time Machinist job).
Well I think I might have found it!. I want to Host in the National Parks and see America.I think I will prefer the Camps with no hook ups.
So I have been reading all the helpfull articles and trying to figure out how I want to do this.I want a Dodge Sprinter with all the Solar I can pack into it. Just 1 problem. I dont have the cash right at hand ,you understand :0:)

So this week I just decided to start where Im at. I do have a Mazda B2300 truck . I bought an Old (Vintage if your an Ebay Fan) Camper shell for 100 dollars.Tomorrow Im going down to Copperas Cove Texas to look at a Military surplus Crew tent. IT has a stove Jack in it so I can burn a woodstove inside it to cook on and keep me warm.
Another 100 Bucks.
I have some good camping gear from my past life as a Cubscout Denmaster, and Im digging that out and cleaning it up. Cast Iron Dutch Ovens etc.
I Dont know if I will ever be a full time Rubber Tramp, but Im just gonna take it 1 day at a time and see how far this Rabbit Hole Goes .
I hope to make the RTR this Jan.

Glad to be here. Im in Central Texas around Waco ...
I tried to post attached Photos but I like to take hi rez photos so I will have to edit them down to post here.

Very cool. My Grandfather was apparently a bootlegger during the Depresion.

You sure you're going to be able to put that up? I was under the impression those big military tents needed a squad to erect them.
I'm not sure one or two people can handle it. Also, those old canvas tents are not particularly waterproof, from what I hear . . .

Regards
John

Yeah Im putting her up today. Its just a 4 man crew tent for gunners and Tankers. 100 lbs. Im gonna carry my dolly or a wheel barrow with me to get it on site ,Its heavy Duty to put it mildly :)
But I been thinking how cool would it be to cruise and camp in a Pink Caddallac?

Welcome Rust and wife. I'm still a wannabe myself but working in it.

Ya know, me and the wife are living in separate residences now. We still married and all that. She is very ill with Chrones. I still go by and see her of a Friday and give her her shots. (old junky skills come in handy sometimes)I wish I could talk her into buying a fancy rig. She got all my money and hers to boot( and she is good at poker 2 :)
I will probably hit the road by myself. And Yall of course :)
I was showing my Granddaughter the Dragonflies yesterday at our local park the little blue ones. The Monarch Butterflies are coming through town this weekend. Damn they are big. Headed down Mexico way.
Here is Herb Alpert Enjoy

One time she was invited into a private game in Reno. She won. She is good :)
