My name is David and I'm close to going full time in a Class B Ford camper van. I'm planning to stay local (New England) and work the summer at my current job, but once it starts getting cold again, I'm heading south and starting at least a year of traveling.

I've been covering most of my fixes & upgrades to my current van on http://vanigans.com/

nice blog you have there! Looks like you've been preparing the right way!

Also... what type of work do you do? You don't have to be specific about where you work, or who you work for.

Are you going to get the 4x4 chassis for your van?

Also, I noticed that you h8 FedEx. Well, I also hate FedEx.

I ordered a guitar amp to be shipped at my workplace. The imbicile driver for FedEx ended up delivering the amp to another address, completely different name & address than my own, on the other side of the friggen city.

I had to go through great lengths to get my package removed from the douchebag who (illegally) signed for it. I ended up calling the police & they had to pretty much pry it out of the hands of the persons who received the package.

I am Fedup with FedEx lol!

Yea, I've never had very good luck with Fedex.. As far as the 4x4 I did pick it up but I'm starting to second guess myself on if I want to keep this van long term and put that much work into it.

While I do like the set up of the van I have, it's really a bit old and well used. It would be fine if I were to keep it local but I'm kinda scared to do any long distance travel in it. That's part of where the 4x4 came in as I'd end up swapping out the motor & trans when I did it.

The problem is I'm really starting to lean toward a newer van and just doing a complete self build as it would be more stealthy and cheaper in the long run due to better fuel mileage & most likely less repair work.

Far as work, I work at a distribution center for a fortune 500 company. I work 3x 12hr shifts, so I get 4 days off a week. I'm going to continue that job til the end of the summer, while living locally in the van I have now and saving money. After that, I'm planning to head to FL for a while to visit family before I start traveling most likely by heading out west and seeing where the road takes me.

At that point I intend to go back to making money online, which I did for quite some time before the economy derailed me, forcing me to get the job I have now. I should have that going before I leave my actual job, which will make everything much smoother.

Another masshole! Welcome! I am headed home, to the Worcester area, for the summer.

Thanks Tony, and cyndi I'm not far from Worcester. I'm over in the Dudley/Webster area.
