Indecent exposure laws will bite you because they don't mean what they appear to mean. You only need be in a vehicle in a public space. The fact that nobody can see you doesn't actually matter. Similarly, look at the people who have done similar at night but within 100yards of a school zone. There aren't any kids around but now you are a sex offender.

Is being charged for a crime (such as indecent exposure) because you are having consensual sex in a blacked out van really happening to people a lot on here? I have not gone FT yet but I didn't even think of this until now. This may be a potential deal breaker for me if so lol. I am laughing and being silly about these posts and with my reply below but I also seriously want to know if it's a real issue!!

Some suggestions were:

Wait til it rains! Some of us are not married or in relationships and I am pretty sure no one is going to hang out in your van on a date til it rains j/s. Should I meet Mr. Right (or Mr. Right Now) on a road trip, and we are both van dwellers, in a drought area, that is gonna be a real mood killer.  This plan is not feasible for the solo traveler. Carpe Diem Folks! I need a plan that involves spontaneity or a fast acting rain dance ritual! 

Good/better shocks I believe was a suggestion .... do I ask him if he has condoms and good shocks at the same time? That plan could backfire because he may be kinky and to him good shocks may mean something else entirely. 50 Shades of Gray Van anyone? Could be awkward (or fun) depending on perspectives j/s. Anyone have a pic of the shock set up so I can check out his rig discretely before deciding to go any further? If I get those heavy duty "let's get it on" type shocks on my bus will I look too easy? ;-)

Hiking to a private spot... while I love hiking, the other option said to walk far into the woods, killing the "hot van romance" moment, not to mention killing the physical energy level by the time we hike for who knows how long to find a secluded spot.  Also, at that point we are risking a bear or some other wild creature wanting a threesome which is a hard limit for me personally. No deal. What if we are both stealth parking in the city? Or the weather is just too cold to go hiking? I would say what if it's raining but we all know that means go time now.

So these options are not really practical for singles and I need to know if police are really cracking down on the love on wheels deal or if it's a general concern but hasn't really happened to anyone?

Has such a situation happened to a vandweller? A link is in the previous comments that says Yes. Charges where dropped but it is a very real possibility. But keep in mind, vandwelling itself is often against the law but most manage just fine.

If you a seriously worried there is always hotel rooms if you can't find someplace out of the way enough.

I wouldn't be too terribly concerned. In my younger years I encountered police several times while in a vehicle and ... Clothing compromised. Never had an issue. That said, not all LEOs in all areas will be so accomodating. But keep in mind, there biggest concern is that everyone is safe and consenting NOT to rain on your parade.

Well, there's always the car wash...maybe tip the attendant for an extended blow dry sequence...

I've lived on wheels for most of my life.
In the back/front of the truck/RV , on the hood , up on the roof , on a hike , on a walk , in the lake /ocean , on a beach at night/day , out in the desert/woods , in a field of wheat/tall grass , mountain top ,steam train parking lot , wherever...and many times I can't even remember where.
Windows covered/open , bad shocks rockin' big time........loud , quiet .
Oh my goshk Never really went looking for a spot , just wherever the mood "pops up" Skuh kuh kuh kuh

Not once had police intervene ,,,,,ever , and zero tickets.

You can relax about this not so problem.
(there are better reasons to lose sleep over....oh yeah , that's kinda what this is about!)

I am sure it is not an issue, surely most of us have had sex in places that were less then appropriate, when other people were close by, your mum in the next room? your wife downstairs or in a bathroom in the Laundromat. I have always thought these times were very exciting so having sex on a busy city street with pedestrians walking past inches away can be very exciting, it just has to be done in a quiet, slow, soft sensual way. If you want to go hard and loud or get into 50 shades of grey stuff I recommend a more remote park up spot. Different strokes for different places.
