Some dash cams automatically upload to a cloud, so if there were someway to communicate to the potential thief that destroying or stealing the camera won't get rid of proof, that would help. If they don't care that their identity is being recorded, you may need to be a little more concerned at that point.

Another reason to be aware of the neighborhood you park in.  People who have given up caring.

Very interesting points!   People definitely break into cars all the time to steal GPS devices -- even entire navigation systems from the center console.  I would definitely not upgrade the stereo, which I think decreases stealth too.  Maybe a camera on a metal frame that is screwed or bolted on like on the exterior of some semi trucks -- it would seem less valuable too I think.  I'm not sure if they're available with a red blinking light, but robbers will avoid it if they see that for sure.
