Hi, I bought an old van I dubbed the Goofy Van a few years back and this is the year I finish it up. Also have tons of other ideas brewing in my old brain. Y'all have to read my profile for a glimpse into those ideas. Goofy is going to be (unfortunately a gas-drinking) ultimate rolling bedroom and office for me (until I create one even better... as I'm sure I will over time...)
And I do have one specific question that probably doesn't belong here, but is it possible to put an inside door handle on the rear cargo doors of a '89 Chevy G20 so one doesn't feel trapped in the back if the front catches on fire? I gotta find a way to add a door handle. I'm sure there is a very good reason they didn't put one there but for the life of me, I'd rather have an exit if I can do so safely. The current stage of my van build, is that the back is still essentially gutted, but rough wired, and I've installed my roof insulation and panels. I'm ready to finish my walls, which are designed and planned, and materials are all being stored in the basement. I've already added a roof fan/vent but it's not an escape hatch. I haven't checked yet, but the door windows don't actually open for exit unless you bust them and one is blocked by a roof ladder and the other has a spare tire to deal with. I have replaced Goofy's dented back doors with Big Blue's back doors. Big Blue is the van I bought for a parts van and someday on-site guest van/cabin. Well? It's good for storage and parts at the least.
Usually, by now, I would have ordered a bunch of parts and tried something until it worked, but I was thinking as all you experienced van dwellers out there might have an idea how I could do this without reinventing the wheel this time. Grins. And it's time I stop lurking in the shadows and open the door to new opportunities.
