Hi Y'all, I am so happy I found this site. In 30 days, I'll be moving out of my apartment to live in my SUV; I feel pretty confident given the advice on this site.
My only concern is to locate safe, legal areas to park. I'm not too comfortable with staying overnight in any of the 24 hr Wal-Marts around here. I have to look around.
Have a great day! :)

Welcome Kat! The stealth parking tips here are pretty good.

Welcome to the CRVL forums BrowneyedKat11! To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips & Tricks" post lists some helpful information to get you started. We look forward to hearing more from you about dwelling in your SUV.

If you happen to have a membership with Sam's Club, we have found their parking lots to be the safest since they have actual security all night. I heard the COE is leaving a few of the campgrounds open around Lake Lanier this winter. You may be able to pop into there occasionally.

www.ultimatecampgrounds.com is a good source for campgrounds although not a lot in Atlanta metro. Do not automatically discount the site as sometimes the small city/county parks have the first night free.

The best source of CHEAP campgrounds that I have found is Passport America. Often the half price rate is cheaper than a public campground and you get full hookups, wifi and cable. Time limits (1 night usually but I have found 7 nights).

BTW, we have a 40 ft non-stealthy bus. We like to stay in places with full hookups. Take care and do not open your door after dark.

Thank you Compass Rose for the campground info, I found two sites I would like to use on weekends, once my finances recover. The Sams Club in the area is adjacent to a Walmart; I'm not so comfortable staying at that location. Especially after a woman disappeared from the Walmart parking lot (shopped for a few items), hasn't been seen since; they recently offered a $2,500 reward for any information. Within the first 3 months of my move to Georgia (I've been here almost 4 years) I stopped shopping there. Random people would walk right up to my vehicle (as I was about to leave), knock on my window and ask for money.

Today, I sent an e-mail to the County "code enforcement" official. I asked him to recommend a safe & free overnight parking spot to sleep. I explained I was uncomfortable with Walmart, noisy truck stops and especially cannot afford to violate zoning laws to incur a fine. I included: I'm a law abiding citizen, taxpayer, educated, employed (hours cut), without any addiction issues. I decided to e-mail him after I researched county/city zoning laws, now I'll wait to see if he does reply. It would be nice to have something in writing.
Have a wonderful day!
