I noticed that another vandweller used a minimal amount of Luan in their Ford cargo van (covering their walls). In places where no luan was used, the bare wall of the van was visible & in the nooks & crannies, they had sprayed Great Stuff Foam Spray Insulation.
Seriously speaking, is this as good as the sheets of foam board insulation that lines the walls in a cargo van? Can this be a worthy substitute insulation (as opposed to R-13 & etc.)?
In the attempt of future car dwelling, I was thinking of possibly insulating my car's interior with spray foam to fully insulate the walls & etc.
On a side note, some twenty-something girl hit the bumper of my car at the stoplite this a.m.on the way to work Not too much visible damage.
Thanks in advance!

Be careful with the spray foam. It expands a lot, and can bulge body panels. For example., if there's say a cubic foot of space to fill, use half of that amount, which will then safely expand without doing any damage.

I used reflectex to line the interior walls, then sheets of R-12, and then spray foam in small boxed in areas.

For hard to cover areas, you could glue matching upholstery material to the reflectex and then glue the reflectex to the walls.
I've never used the stuff before. Can that spray foam plug holes and keep critters out?

I read about how mice find their way into travel trailers/RVs when looking for warm places during the winter. I'd like to apply it to my rig as a preventative measure.

Filling voids and the leaks they cause is the primary purpose of the product. If your vehicle is anything like my last one, you will have a hard time getting to their favorite holes.

Yeah I get that, but can it prevent them from getting back in. Or to be precise ... can they dig right through the stuff after it hardens.

Exactly. However the foam would presumably fill in not only the hole they made, but everything behind it as well. So if this stuff is chew proof or at least a strong chew deterrent, then even if they bust through a new spot the foam behind it should put an end to their digging. Right?

Just the answer I was looking for ... Thanks xi700!

I dunno about mice, but squirrels love spray foam and fiberglass insulation.
