After finding this thread I'm marathoning Two Toes on YT. Already know I want a novice detector.

yeah Two Toes knows his stuff. actually there are several prospectors on You Tube that know their stuff. highdesertranger

HDR, got some links/names of those guys?
I can't get too enthused, I'm getting too old to do what I'd like, but a hobby that keeps me moving outside and pays off w/ that "something for nothing" effect now and again sounds really good. I've seen some local clubs, I may look into those as I continue building this rig.

HDS, this is so cool! I just found this thread and reminds me of an old friend I knew who retired early from Chevron years back to go into gold prospecting. I hear from him every now and then, but it's been a while. The last time he was working some land he leased in Alabama of all places and was doing pretty good.  The only time I went with him was in Northwest New Mexico in the early 90s. I'll try to hunt him down and have him join and contact you. From scanning this thread, y'all have a lot in common. I know he had some pretty cool dredge setups and was working on a falling water power system to run one of his pumps, but never saw it, and Charle was a clever old fart to be sure. If I still had my health, I'd love to give it a try myself. Good Luck!

Wow! Just found this thread.

Awesome operation! I've done some gold prospecting with a metal detector and panning in Arizona and New Mexico. No dredging experience though.

Sad about your friend and dog. May they rest peacefully in a higher place...

Cool. Are you still doing this? I notice this thread is from 2015.

I was thinking of investing in a metal detector that detects gold and doing it for a hobby...on a much smaller scale than what you are doing.

Maybe I'll get lucky and earn a little gas money on the side. (If not, at leas lt it will be good exercise!)

I guess however innocuous my posts are they get removed. California got on the map (literally) because of the Gold Rush. Plus my old G&M Society went a few times a long time ago. But I guess anything I post will be removed.
Wow.

Lerca I just checked and the last post you had deleted was 1/16/2021 and it was not on this thread. Any idea of when you posted.

HDR, this is really awesome! I started prospecting last year when I found myself reluctantly in Georgia, learning of the gold here, and finding Chris Ralph’s YouTube channel. I bought a gold detector with my first stimulus check. I’d love to join you when George is up to a cross-country trip ?

I have gotten a few request to join me this summer. This summer is still a ways off. I can have a few people come but at this time I can't make any promises. A couple of things,

1. You need to have respect for the property owner she lives on the property. I am not really worried about this but I had to mention it.
2. You need to be self contained. by this I don't mean you need a RV but you just can't poop in the woods.
3. You need to actually help out, the property owner made that clear last year. again I am not really worried about this.
4. We can't have a ton of people here at one time. We can have people come to help out but not all at once.

So that's about the extent of the rules everyone that wants to come needs to keep in touch. As we get closer I will post more info.

Dang man, you don't mess around! Just flipped through the thread like a picture book, some serious equipment!

A couple childhood buddies around here in VA pan and have had some decent scores.
Prior to them getting into it, I had no clue people still did this, I thought it was just back in the 1800s lol

Haha...The 1800s found all the easy gold. The 21st Century has to work more for less and develop more resourceful tools. It’s the “lowest hanging fruit on the tree” doctrine.
