Hi all, not sure where this fits.  I just talked to someone at mexpro.com which offers full coverage on my van while driving it in Mexico, but only if I simultaneously maintain my domestic full coverage policy in the US.  They'll even cover the added value of my van modifications if I prove it to them with receipts and/or an appraisal.  Never had a vehicle appraised.  Can someone point me in the right direction for that?

If your van is set up to be an RV then a licensed used RV dealer will be the place to get it appraised. I had to go to one to. Get my vintage travel trailler appraised. Of course if it is not setup that way then you would take it to a used car dealer.  i have never been charged for that type of appraisal.  by the way the appraisal must be done on the official stationary of the dealer and the business card of the appraiser should also be attached. Then make a couple of copies of it as you need one for yourself as well as for the insurance company records. Also take photos and prepare an inventory list of equipment. With any receipts you have for materials or labor for improvements.

First I'd check whether the border is even open.

You can buy the insurance at the border. They may frown if you bought it from somewhere else and not from THEM.
