Kindle is coming out with a new ereader that is a lowest cost version for them at $80. This means that the competing older versions should all decrease in price, with discounts to clear stock.

Please post of success in finding good bargains for ereader prices. Be careful buying used, as used can be locked out of use on Amazon due to account restrictions.

Bought a used older kindle version 4. About $20 plus shipping costs. It had a book cover with built in light!! Nice.

Am using some free software tool called CALIBRE to convert the kindle book to PDF or to TEXT. For adaptability. Then you can use an app called VOICE DREAM on the iPhone (cost $10) to dictate the book to you, assuming you want it read to you instead of reading it yourself. Works well for long drives, and saves on the audiobook costs.

"In an odyssey of movement and beauty we move back and forth across Alaska, jumping fires from Kodiak Island to the shadows of Denali, and in the winds of Isabel Pass.

The smokejumpers themselves are a varied lot - several are ex-Air America bad boys recently back from covert CIA operations in Southeast Asia, and in no mood to take orders from anyone. The rest of the crew is made up of transfers and no-rehires from the jump bases in the Lower 48 where strict, top-down, authoritarian management made it hard, if not impossible, for them to fit in. Being stuck on Fort Wainwright in a dark and dreary hangar, surrounded by chain link fences and gravel lots, and under the eye of the Army Military Police is a recipe for disaster with a healthy serving of rebellion, heroism, pranks and humor thrown in.

Adventure with these smokejumpers as they ultimately come together in an outrageous testimony to the joy of living life fully and playfully in one of America's last great true-life adventures."

Got my latest one on craigslist for $45. It's a paperwhite, not the latest, maybe a 6? Anyway, I recommend the paperwhite ones,
the touchscreen and built in light are real handy. Also using calibre, it's free, and great for managing, and converting, your e-books.
Sometimes when I mention how great kindles are, people say "oh, but I prefer paper books". They're ok, sure, but I can fit so many
books on a kindle, finish one, start the next one right away, built in dictionary, get new books in just a few minutes, I wouldn't give it up!

Here is a link to a new author with Steampunk Zombie Western as well as fantasy books.  I made him set things up last night with Kindle versions.

Those of you who are interested, he needs some Beta readers to help finalize his current novel.  I have been helping, and it is a completely new genre.

About 200 or so books, articles, and videos on magic by authors like Houdini, Shugard, Stebbins, Erdnase and other greats are available (free!) at http://www.lybrary.com/the-learned-pig-project-tlpp-a-21.html.

"The Learned Pig Project was started in September 1999 by Marko from Panama. Marko's idea was essentially to mimic the Project Gutenberg for magicians. Project Gutenberg's purpose is to digitize public domain books. The Learned Pig Project's goal is to digitize public domain magic books. When Marko started he had four books digitized: My Magic Life (Devant), Miracle Mongers (Houdini), The Lives of the Conjurers (Frost) and Behind the Scenes with the Mediums (Abbott). He would later add dozens more. In late 2011 Marko shut down the project due to security issues on his website.

To prevent the loss of this great resource we (Lybrary.com) decided to purchase TLPP from Marko and continue to host it on our website. To get access to the magic ebooks, articles, sketches and tricks you will have to register a customer account at Lybrary.com and enable the magic newsletter. Once you do that you will see in the Tools section in your account a link to TLPP."

"Drifting in the Push is a fast-paced, comical romp that takes the reader on a journey through the unintentional adventures of one man’s reality. From the Rocky Mountains to the Pacific Ocean, from Mexico to Alaska, missteps, stubborn obstacles, and fate are his constant companions, along with an offbeat assortment of entertaining characters. From time to time, his escapades include his two childhood friends—Bryan, who follows him to the unforgiving Arctic, and Shane, who steers him down an unpleasant alley or two. Amid this craziness, he picks up another friend—Hank, his devoted dog. This chronological series of interdependent short stories will take you from fear to love, amusement to surprise, and it just might occasionally leave a tear in your eye."

"In writing this book the author had only one end in view, that of relating in a simple way his experiences as a mountaineer. In these days, when such experiences are fast becoming a thing of the past, the story is of special interest."
