"Every minute you spend wishing you did something is a minute you spend not doing it."

~Chris DiCroce

Tired of mortgage payments and unfulfilling jobs, Chris and Melody, along with their dog Jet, sold their house and almost everything they owned to move onto a 35 foot sailboat.

This is the story of a leap of faith and their attempt to break away. From making the decision, to the emotions of finding the right boat, selling everything, and finally telling friends, family, and bosses.

In the process, they soon discovered that their greatest triumphs often came from their greatest challenges.

Champagne wishes and caviar dreams fell prey to their bologna sandwich and Miller High Life budget. Boat breakdowns, tropical storms and over-extended bank accounts brought them face to face with the reality that things don't always go as planned, but sometimes... that's the best plan.

Light-hearted, humorous, and sometimes sad, this story will draw you in you with its unique look at life on a sailboat and the emotions that come with it.

If you've ever wanted to quit your job and move onto a boat, or have dreams of location independence and travel, this is a book you should read"

"This is not a story about cutting off body parts to survive, or going to brink of existence in an unforeseen twist of fate. This is an adventure born from watching old movies and programs of people living and travelling in the Alaskan/Canadian wilderness. It is a story of a solo quest to get to Alaska by kayak with very little experience, surviving in the wilderness along the way; it’s a story of learning to believe in yourself when some others think you’re crazy, of putting one foot in front of the other each day, and of trusting your wits to get you out of a situation if it all goes wrong. Some describe it as crazy, some say it’s a spirit quest. All I know is that I needed to do it, so I did.

There is a youtube video diary of the trip you can check out here

If its a bit long for you here is the teaser video "

I included this because it's a hobby and possibly a source of income on the road. I know a couple of people that do jewlry makling and wire wrapping out of their van

I have not gone through the whole thread so this may be redundant. I found free audiobooks and ebook downloads at loyalbooks.com. There is also a app for your phone that lets you stream or download.

Mostly older classics. I'm listening to Moby Dick now. I'd rather listen to a game, talk show, book or even the old mystery radio theater that watch it. A screen is selfish and I can't do other things too.

"After his job lays him off, Cosmo Greco takes his sister, Silvia, up on her offer to drive to Portland. At the beginning of the trip, a Mack truck wipes them off the road, nearly killing them. This near-death experience is a wake-up call for Cosmo, and he begins to question the life he’s been leading. He realizes that he’s not happy with his current life and wants to make a change. A number of encounters along the way reinforce this desire, but he’s afraid to leave the familiarity of his humdrum existence for the unknown.

This book is the sequel to Olive Branches Don't Grow On Trees and the second book in the Greco Family Trilogy, although it can be read as a stand-alone. Reviewers such as Kirkus Reviews and Midwest Book Review have called this a poignant and well-drawn soaring story that opens readers eyes to new perspectives. Readers will feel that they are along on the ride in this soulful road story as the highly lovable Cosmo explores a vividly painted American landscape, encounters a cast of colorful characters and discovers what it takes to be truly happy. "El Camino de Santiago, also known as The Way, is the fabled path that weaves through French and Spanish countryside for 1,000 miles to its hallowed destination at Santiago de Compostella. Thousands attempt to walk its entirety each year: some succeed, many fail.
Keith Foskett thru-hiked the Camino to indulge his love for the outdoors and hiking but also, unintentionally, filled a void in his life which took him in a completely different direction. Along the way he made friends with fellow pilgrims from all over the world, all travelling for their own different reasons. He was assailed by new experiences and unexpected discoveries – from the pain of blisters and extremes of temperature to encountering kleptomaniacs, fake faith healers and being threatened with arrest in Spain for ‘not sleeping’.
This is the story of one man’s walk, but it speaks to all who see life itself as a journey and are alive to the revelations that an escape to nature can bring. Written with insight, observation and a healthy dose of humour. "

"After more than twenty-years of bad decisions and spectacular personal failures, Frank Stevens desperately needs to be pulled out of the death spiral he's fallen into. A chance and entirely unexpected reunion with his best friend from childhood presents that exact opportunity at the precise moment he needs it most.

Frank and the long-lost Danny Loughman launch off on an epic road-trip together. If Frank can keep his wits about him and Danny doesn't expire in his sleep, they just might find their destination, earn a shot at redemption, and arrive at a place called home - if it isn't already too late."
