It would be nice to have a religion/spiritual ity section on here. For instance, I thought it would be interesting to discuss any spiritual beliefs anyone would have tied to deciding to give up possessions to pursue life on the road.

I for one think taking this adventure would help me realign my priorities. It would help me choose my needs over my wants more and to be less selfish, for instance.

The idea of not necessarily easier yet simpler living in some ways also comes to mind. I don't know how to explain what I mean...

but it does have some spiritual meaning to me. This decision.

Probably not going to happen.

Religion, like politics, seems to be a divisive topic that brings out the worst in some people.

Just post as you like in this sub, or the Other Topics or whatever it's called.

No need to create new subforums for every possible topic.

There have been many threads on spiritual topics, that have not descended into religion nor led to anything unpleasant.

At first I thought this site did have a spirituality page but it does not. Check out

RV, I scanned that forum topics. Is anything on this forum related to travel? Or more especially related to giving up one's place to just "roam" for a lack of a better way for me to say it right now. As far as religion and spirtuality, I find that there is a right and wrong way to discuss those topics. I personally don't like it -- not just for religion or poltics but for any matter -- when people are too pushy. I always crave meeting people capable of having disucssions about meaningful things without trying to change me. Like people are telling me "what do do." I hate that.

As for me, I wasn't planning on getting too deep into anything. I just thought it would be interesting that's all. With the people who want to.

The transportation forum at that site has a little about travel, but not much. Some do talk about vanliving occasionally. On most forums there will be pushy persons on every topic. I try to tone them out, but it can be a challenge ; ).

I do have spiritual/philosophical reasons for having sold everything for life on the road.  I don’t think the OP meant let’s start a thread where we can convert others to our way of thinking and be all pushy about it, yuck!

But sharing the deeper meaning of why we are out here and anything cool we learn from it would seem to be in the spirit of why Bob created this forum.

^ This is kind if what I meant. It's just interesting to talk about, but maybe it's not ever going to be a public conversation. Perhaps we could just chat privately. I would share here, but I no longer feel comfortable. But I would be interested to hear your insights.

I don't consider spirituality and religion to be the same thing.  People who are spiritual are often mistaken for those who are religious.  Spirituality is a personal thing.  Religion is a group experience.  Spiritual people are often assumed to be religious but I believe there is a difference.  Not trying to be confrontational; that's just what I have come to believe.  I will never try to change anyone's beliefs and trying to change mine will be a waste of time for all involved.

It absolutely does.  Even if they don't realize it, by setting up distinctions some people find impossible to forget or forgive.  It's the nature of many belief systems to be inherently exclusionary or dismissive of others, and it's human nature as well, so ... it would happen and happen a lot ... so ...

... I think such a section would wind up making a great many people like each other less.  Even if they didn't admit it to themselves.  And more reluctant to make friends.  Both here and out on the road.

It's not worth it.

I think that is the nub of it.    When people identify as one of a group, the polarisation is enhanced as an 'us and them' is established.   Once the comparative dimension is established, people then make judgements about how their beliefs are better or stronger or more effective, than that of others.   Not much different to politics.

Hi JuliaAnne2018,

I know it kind of sucks when you offer a suggestion and feel like it has been summarily shot down, try not to take it personally.  The discomfort you feel now, is only a teeny tiny hiccup compared to the gut punch that often follows a heated "debate" centered around religion.

Please do share, as you begin to feel comfortable enough to do so.  Just keep in mind the diversity of life experiences and beliefs of each individual combined with the full spectrum of personalities on this site and other sites online and don't let what they think or say silence your personal truth.

I would if there was a way to limit the conversation to people who actually want to participate, I would. Otherwise, I'm just not willing anymore.
