From what I understand you can legally park a vehicle on the street as long as it is 21 feet or under.

The question then becomes should you get an RV/Van that is under 21 feet to benefit from this. In theory, I would like knowing I can "technically" park anywhere but I want to hear from those who have done it in practice.

Do any of you find parking easily even with over 21 foot RVs? Where do you park? Would you recommend getting a RV under 21 feet to park on the street or does it not really matter?

Thanks!

I think it depends on what street you're talking about. I used to park my truck and trailer on the street quite often. Not overnight but that wasn't my intention.

I should think width would be a bigger issue than length on a city street.

Thanks for the response mockturtle.

I see you have a 24ft RV. Do you have any trouble finding parking in cities/towns or do you usually stay at campgrounds/in the wild?

I have never overnighted on a city street. But I do park in parking lots and sometimes along a street if it's sufficiently wide. If I'm towing my car it's a little more challenging--you can't back a toad!--so I'm pretty careful about where I park, not wanting to get hemmed in. Tioga George http://blog.vagabonders-supreme.net/ has parked his 28' Class C on many a city street [he prefers industrial areas] in both the US and Mexico.

Now, I'm sure there are plenty of ordinances about parking an RV on a city street overnight. But if you're just interested in parking, a larger rig is no problem in most places. There are almost always side streets that are more accommodating.

If I had an option of owning a rv that was more/less than 21 feet I'd opt to go with a rig less than 21 feet. Having an rv more than 21 feet could become a problem in locations where the length of a vehicle is an issue.

Along with this issue is the height of your rig. I recall reading an article on a law on vehicles parked on the street somewhere in southern California. The specific law mentions vehicles eight (8) feet or more in height. So now you have two issues if your rig is greater than 21 feet.

Just a thought!
