Engine question

Hello,
I don’t know if this is in the correct area or not...please feel free to let me know if it is wrong.

I am looking at a 1999 Coachman Saratoga Class B and it is has a Chevy 5.9L V8 engine.  I know nothing about engines and when I do a Google search it shows mostly Dodge engines for a 5.9L so are these engines one and the same?

Any pros or cons to this engine?

And if by chance anyone has/had this type of Class B let me know your opinions.

All the 1999 coachman i have seen were dodges.
chevy doesn't seem to have a 5.9.
the dodge 360 v8 is a fine engine.

who told you it was a Chevy? Chevy doesn't have a 5.9 and never has. so either it's not a 5.9 or it's not a Chevy. highdesertranger

It is what is listed on the website details regarding this unit .but I won’t be seeing it in person until Saturday so I will ask then.

It’s with a dealer, not a private individual so it may have been listed incorrectly?

A mistake like that a red flag for a scam. Probably a clerical error, but it would be good to keep your eyes open anyway.

The Coachman Saratoga model were built mostly on Dodge and Ford vans. If the engine is a 5.9L, then it's a Dodge. Most Ford based units came with 7.4L.

The 5.9L magnum engine is one of the best engines Dodge ever came out with. Terrible gas mileage for its size, but easy to repair, and get parts for. The big thing about Dodge is rust. Have the under carriage carefully inspected for rust, especially at the front frame where the steering is attached. If you live in a place that pours salt on anything, even french fries, have it inspected for rust....

Okay..here’s an update on the “Chevy” engine...it was a Dodge and was always a Dodge. I misread the description...:-(

It was a very well maintained unit, but it was a pass for me. I was feeling claustrophobic so now my search is for a wide body to see if that helps.

I’m so trying to avoid the Class B+ or the smaller Class C (those mostly because of water leakage) because of the MPG.

Maybe one gets used to the confined feeling?? Lol

What water leakage Deb? My B plus is a 2003 and has never leaked. I’ve had many trailers and a few RVs and have yet to have a leak. If you do regular maintenance like you should do on any house or dwelling then that shouldn’t be a problem.
