Hey I just wanted to say hi to everyone in the form subject under truck blowing I am currently in a Dodge Dakota Sport looking to upgrade some of it to having a cap over the bed and going from there to provide some bare necessities for living currently I'm in Arizona Around the Grand Canyon area and I would like to network with other truck dwellers to find out how they did certain things and maybe bash heads for new and improved ideas

Looking over the farm Getting to Know It reading everybody's post and enjoying if anybody would like feel free to direct message me or even add me as a buddy if you so wish just looking to network with like-minded individuals and hopes that I make it to the RTR this coming year

Happy Nomading

Peace to all
Blessed be

I have built and built out a couple of toppers. Take a look at the Tnttt.com foamies section. There are some there that are on 4 cylinder Tacomas that are really nice and cheap to build. Also Expedition Portal site had one with drawers under a sleeping platform that had a slide out to create a kitchen with a swing out ARB frige.

Currently down with the ball joint issue on my truck don't have the funds to fix it right now and wondering if anybody out there in the Eastern Phoenix Arizona area might be able to land a fellow nomad a hand

Please any help would be great right Now the city is to noisy been here for 3 nights now trying to find help without any luck

Found out it's an upper ball joint on my driver side that's my issue was advised not to drive my truck because of possibility of the tire falling off while driving and endangering myself and other motorists on the road found out that the ball joint is riveted in because it's a 2000 thanks

Sorry to hear that Nomad.

Thanks yeah me too kind of put a damper on my travels definitely getting to Courtside and Parker in time for the van build hopefully I can get my truck back up to par so I can take it back down the road without putting anybody's life in danger mine or anybody else's

I did a little quick Google search. It seems the Dakotas went to bolt in upper ball joints in 2000. 1999 was the last year for riveted upper ball joints. Needs a closer look to be sure.

Yeah I think I was one of the lucky ones and got one of the trucks that rolled off the assembly line at the end of 99 before they started putting bolts instead of rivets

I believe you can grind or drill off the rivets and the new ones can go in with bolts if I'm not mistaken. Harbor Freight has some really cheap cut off / grinders on sale sometimes.

Right that's my problem though I don't have the money to get it fixed I had enough money to get me to Quartzsite but sitting here for a few days I've already burnt through that so now I'm crossing my fingers and hoping for a miracle

Here is a youtube video of a guy doing it. You don't have to have the air chisel. Specialty tools can be rented from the auto supply.

So do you have any future income? I would start looking for a homeless shelter immediately if not, it is getting cold in flagstaff. Possible employment or day jobs as well. Coolworks.com may have some employment with housing so possibly sell to truck to pay for transportation to a comfirmed winter job? Let us know when you form a plan. Maybe some ideas here to get you going again, but it's up to you to figure out what will work for you. Best wishes!

For some reason I got it in my head you were in Flagstaff! Glad you are at least warm in Phoenix!

Update: I am no longer in the truck after the van build I am now a van dweller
