Diesel Engine

In my youth my camping was with a lean-to, a backpack, a knife an ax and a flintlock rifle.

Now that i'm in my 70's, I want a lot more comfort. So i just bought a '02 Chevy 2500 Express Conversion Van with a Diesel engine. I've never had a diesel before and don't know the first thing about maintaining or troubleshooting it. Your advice would be appreciated.

Also how do I go about finding a reputable mechanic to do a thorough inspection and do any needed repairs?
I live in Chicago and there are plenty of so called mechanics, but if anyone on the Forum is in the area - can you make a recommendation.

follow the manufacturers recommendations. use quality filters, Wix or Napa Gold are my favorites. highdesertranger

Additionally, research microbes in diesel fuel. May not be a problem for you directly, however, to be aware of the potential. High humidity summers and coastal areas are susceptible. Additionally, frequent the diesel fueling areas where A LOT of diesel is being used as the underground tanks can accumulate water....preferrably truck stops.

Nice find I had a 2001 E350 before that I had a 1986 1 ton GMC Vandura (duromax) diesel, had some trouble with the gloplugs at 120K It's easy to ignore diesel motors aside oil changes I now have a 1995 2500 Dodge Ram 5.9 bulletproof. If needed and something I don't wanna do we have a dedicated diesel shop for fair prices in fact I bought the truck from them. I am in San Francisco
