For what it's worth I am thus far pretty impressed with what I've seen from the www.dentistsofalgodones.com web  site.  They responded to my e-mail inquiry in a matter of hours even on a Sunday afternoon.  They have sent me price sheets and are willing to look over my x-rays to help prepare a care plan before I even get there.

Pay for service medical care seems like such an anomaly.

I hope to have several implants done next spring and will save enough money driving to MX from NC to basically pay for my trip across country AND I'll get to camp and see the sights on my way.  I'm starting to understand why people do this.

I've certainly heard others talk these folks up.  Any personal experiences or dentist recommendations anyone cares to pass along?

No personal experience, but just in case you missed it, Bob did a blog post on the subject:

Thanks, John, I had missed it.  A bit busy, so I sort of scanned the blog post now, and will read it in detail later.  I did see a recommendation in the post for one particular dentist.  However, I wonder if any CRVL thread has listed different dentists there, with a little info on each, etc.?  Something like a mini-directory, but filtered to those that members have experience with.

Vagabound

I seem to recall that Van Tramp had a tooth extracted down in Mexico.  If he doesn't jump into this thread you might PM him.

My experience with Algodones is that you are better served by common sense and window shopping than you are by reviews and recommendations.

They're probably better than the butcher at the local poor people's clinic! She was American, probably trained in Bangladesh, and practiced in a few prisons. Or just a plain old psychopath that can't get work anywhere else. Washington, of course.

I keep seeing this thread and thinking "Dentists of Algadones" sounds like a 1960's horror movie. Or possibly a rock band.

I think you're confusing it with the cult classic "Chainsaw Dentist" . . .

I will say that their fee for service model is very simple. They appear more than willing to work with American Dentists.

While I still have insurance I will get the teeth that need pulled and whatever cleanings I can get done while they are still covered. Implants are not covered sadly and so my options are a dental school or go to MX.

Might as well take the money I save going to MX and spend it on a nice long cross country trip.

Then while I wait the 3 months for the implants to heal I can tour the West and visit my brother in Nor Cal.

Why pay a dentist all that money when I can use the money to tour the country AND get my teeth fixed.

Gone with the Wynn's has a YouTube video on getting dental work done. You can find it by searching YouTube "Gone with the Wynn's dental". They videoed the entire visit to Mexico and the dental appointment.
