Hi, how long are you traveling?
Are you just going around Vegas or ?
Steph

Hi Steph
I am going to find out if US and I am Compatible and if yes... We will see :)
By now, I am staying for 6 month and then I need to go to Canada for 6 month to regain the right to go back to US, if I want to stay...
I want to see it all and is going with the weather. I dont work well when it is cold, so where it is warm, I'll be :)
Where are you living?
MaxiDane on Wheels sends you a smile

Ohh, if you mene at the first trip?
The co driver and I will find out what we will do :)

I'm in CA on the coast mid-state. It's about a 45 min plane ride or 7 hr drive.

So, I didn't/don't understand what you are looking for in terms of 1st trip. Will you be RV shopping around Vegas or do have a trip in mind for a few days.

I guess if you are looking for someone to drive around Vegas, I wouldn't be the one. You're time frame seems very short if you're leaving tomorrow or thursday.

Steph

Hi Maxine,

I'm not there yet, or I'd try to help in some way.  I think lots of people here, including me, can give you info about the area that you're in.

One thing:  I'm not trying to stop you from renting a van, but I just want to be sure that you know that vans are very expensive to rent, compared to other cars.

I arrived from Denmark at this Saturday and is going to find an RV to drive around US. To find the RV I need a car to go around and visit RV dealer ships.
I will properly stay forever :)

I am thinking of a van because I then can sleep in the back if I have to drive a far way to look at some RV!
Any idea is welcome :)
Looking forward to meeting you some day

Smiles to you from MaxiDane

Welcome to the US Maxine!

For anyone who doesn't know Maxine's story. She just arrived from Denmark and is looking for a van or RV to buy and then travel around the US for 6 months. If anyone can lend her a hand please do!

"Hi all RV'ers
I will be arriving in Las Vegas (from Denmark) at Saturday 1. October and there I will receive my first American Present. The Brasser Women will be there to welcome me and take me safe to my hotel.
I will properly be very tired and confused, so it is very nice to know there is someone to give me a smooth start in your big country. Thanks Girls :)
Sunday the 2. October will properly be a day to land and find my feet's in the exciting new town.
From Monday d. 3. October to Friday d. 7. October I would love to have visitor's :)
If you are in the area, please let me know, come and show me your rig and let us talk about how you do it. Seeing and reading on the internet is one thing, but seeing it in real life is the best and I have so much to learn.
The Danish and Americans do have a lot in common, but there is also some things that is VERY different :)
And Please, also if you are in anything else then a Motor home, it be a Box Truck, Van, Bus or something else, I would love to see it. I haven't decided what kind of home I will make yet :)
In the first week, I will be living at the Longhorn Hotel, 5288 North Boulder Highway, Boulder Strip, Las Vegas.
Please let me know, here on Facebook, if you are coming, so I won't be out and about.
P.S. If you have any extras laying around, like a hammer, a bowl, a screwdriver, a pot, a tea towel or anything else for a household, I would be grateful to receive it to use in my new home.
I am looking so much forward to meet you all. Have a hug and a smile from

Hey Maxine you made it here safely !
Welcome to our great country !
Wishing you many great adventures and happy trails !
Good luck with your van search and getting used to driving , remember , the driving in the city will be crazy compared to out on the open roads .....

Welcome, Maxine! I wish I could help, but I'm too far away. I used to live in Las Vegas. The crime there is fairly bad, so keep your important things close, and pay attention to what is going on around you. Pay attention to your instincts.

I would love to see the first from Craigslist but I cant get there. I have no Auto and they cant come to me. Anyone can give a lift?

I looked at that unit, and it has problems. There is a noise coming from the front of the engine and the harmonic balancer is bouncing around.
The inside is pretty rough as well.  The add may be new, but it has been for sale for some time now.

The only way to become accustomed to driving is to do it. If watching someone else drive can teach you, take a bus and sit next to the driver.

If someone wants to sell their van, it should run good enough to bring it to you. Or find the one you are interested in and take a taxi or have them bring it to you. Let us know what your budget for a vehicle and maybe we can keep an eye out.

Maxine,

I don't know what you know or what anyone's told you about this, so I'll say it clearly -- practically speaking, there is almost no public transportation in the U.S.  Some exceptions in major cities, but Las Vegas doesn't qualify.

So, that means that you must have independent means of transportation / way of getting around.  That can be taxi or rental car.  Buses exist, but their routes and times are usually very very limited.  Although my info about Vegas is old, I'm sure that it hasn't changed that much regarding public transportation.

In reality, it will be hard to do what you're attempting without a car already or taking a taxi each time to see each vehicle for sale.  One idea for taxi:  Take any taxi one time, and if you like the driver, ask him/her for a business card.  If you don't like/trust that driver, do this again with Taxi # 2.  Then, call that same driver each time you want to go somewhere.  You and the driver both might benefit.

Bus website:  http://www.rtcsnv.com/transit/

The city bus system has a "Plan Your Trip" feature on the website that might be helpful.  Plan lots of extra time (wait, then slow moving, then wait, then slow moving, etc).

I dont want a B. I am to stiff and Big. I love the thought of the freedom and the tribe people, but I need to be a member in my way. If I cant go as fair out as you sometimes go, I must find other ways to be with you. It can be done and I will not give up :)

It looks SO good. I will need to make changes to my home on wheels because of my handicap. Just dont know if I have the home so soon?
Will see. Else I will meet many of you on RTR.

I will need to go a lot around and I can now see that it is cheaper to rent a moving vehicle, so I think that is what I will do for now. I will be able to sleep in it and then I can go around and look in different state and places.
Think it is going to be 22-24feet Class C, but the world is open and so is my mind :)

Maxine, you have a great plan!! Renting a van and camping in it will be by far your best way to conduct your RV search. There are numerous companies that rent vans.

Sometimes the daily rental on vans is very low, but they make up for it with very high per-mile charges. Since you will be doing a lot of driving. Be sure to look into that carefully. At one time U-Haul (there will be many of their dealers in LV) offered a per week rental that included unlimited mileage--that might be your cheapest option in the long run.

A lot of the camping and daily living gear you need to buy will be available for much less at thrift stores and craigslist. Also, in America we do something called Garage (or Yard) Sales. On the weekend people put out their excess, unwanted stuff out on the curb and sell it for very cheap. That will be well worth your time. On Friday the local papers will have a column of garage sales in the advertising section.

Or you can just drive around residential neighbors and there will be many signs out for them.

I wish I were there, I'd love to go around and help you, but I am far away.
Bob

I went to the RV parking spot. Nothing for sale!

Then something odd happened:
I went to U-haul and talked about renting a van and then she told me:
The Vans and small U-haul truck must stay in town. They are not allowed to leave Las Vegas??????????
Now what?

Please, Do any of you have an idea of what then to do, please advice me.

:) MaxiDane on Wheels

Hi Bob
I am also sorry that you cant be here, but I WILL come to the RTR and give you a big hug :)
And there is no doubt, I will go to the second hand stores and Garage sales.
When I sold everything at home, it became known to me, how much I owned that I didnt need. So i am sure I will be able to find lots of good stuff at other peoples houses too :)

Take care and have fun.
