Hi Gunny
I am alone and dont want an RV bigger than 22-24feet. The bigger, the more it cost to drive!
But it does look nice :)

just my two cents, but I doubt 5 extra feet (compared to a 24) would add that much fuel consumption, but you gotta stick with your comfort zone

Then something odd happened:
I went to U-haul and talked about renting a van and then she told me:
The Vans and small U-haul truck must stay in town. They are not allowed to leave Las Vegas??????????
Now what?

Please, Do any of you have an idea of what then to do, please advice me.

It's possible you misunderstood her.  Some people rent vans for what's called one-way trips.  In other words, you rent a van in Las Vegas, NV and drive it to Houston, TX and turn it in to a U-Haul place there.  Other vans are only available for local use, in other words, when you are done with it, you must turn it back in to the same location you rented it from.  I think it's possible that that's what she was trying to say, local use only.

But anyway, here in America, U-Haul is not the only game in town.

You could also look into renting a van from Budget:

Alrighty Maxine, I extended the search feature on rv trader and come across this one, I just talked to the sales manager and she said she may be able to work out a ride for you to come look at it if you are a serious buyer. Her name is Amerette and here is the unit.

http://www.rvtrader.com/dealers/AFF.../listing/1987-Winnebago-MINNI-WINNI-119649649

Call and talk to her if interested.

The ad says "Location: Ontario, CA".  I'm assuming that is California, not Canada.

Even if California, that's a good distance away from Las Vegas.  Driving:  240 miles and almost 4 hours one-way.  However, there are likely many daily flights from Las Vegas to Ontario, Cal.

EDIT: One more option that I just became aware of -- Jucy Rentals. Apparently a mini-van with a camper pop-top. Pretty cool! I just checked Las Vegas (only one of three place in U.S. that has them). If renting for a week, the rate is $45 a day. Wheels and house all in one!

If anyone knows about them firsthand, I'd like to know (even if Maxine doesn't use them -- PM is fine).

Yes, it is California. I extended the search area to 250 miles. The sales manager said she had some people returning from Vegas and might be able to help. Whether she chooses to check it or not, it is an option, rather than being locked in to Las Vegas. I haven't heard of Jucy Rentals and know nothing about them, it may be an option for her.   Rob

Gunny: Thanks for clarifying. Agree, it's an option. I'm particularly interested because I'm about two weeks behind her in a very similar process (Vegas or Phoenix).

All: Need to update the info I just added about Jucy RV Rentals. Read more of their FAQ. Turns out that you need to pay for extras that you might not think of as "extras": mileage, camping stuff, insurance, etc.

Unlimited mileage - add $30 per day (incl. tax)
100 miles a day - add $15 per day
Insurance - up to $22 per day for full coverage
etc.

Here's the FAQ:
http://www.jucyusa.com/our-vehicles/jucy-champ-mini-rv-rental/jucy-champ/#/faq

Here's the insurance page, which was cleverly and doubly camouflaged under "Excess Reduction" (silly kiwis! ;-):

Click this --> http://www.jucyusa.com/our-vehicles/jucy-champ-mini-rv-rental/jucy-champ/#/insurance

and then, when it doesn't take you to the right place, click "Excess Reduction" from the menu on that page.

So, in the end, what looked like a great deal -- $45 a day -- could in fact be more like $97 a day, with unlimited mileage and full insurance coverage. They also seem to put a hold of $500 to $1,500 on your credit card related to the insurance coverage.

Whew!

Vagabound, with her being from rather small (geographically) country, 240 miles may seem extreme, but coming thousands of miles to realize a dream makes me admire her. I wish I were closer and could help, unfortunately I'm stuck in Texas. I would bet she does this soon, she seems determined.

Thanks for the info on Jucy. Rob

Oh Wow it all happens quickly right now :)
I have been in contact with a person who want's to sell a Class C and we will meet on Monday. I am very interested in the vehicle so I will be on stand-by until then :)
Thanks so much for all your help. If I buy the Class C, I'll get SO much in the fire... :) I will then get the vehicle later in the month and then I just need to be able to drive it.....:)

How do I get experience in driving a Class C 24 foot beforehand?
Advise is welcome

In case it isn't obvious, I'm not trying to discourage. Actually, a lot of typing toward the opposite goal.

Firm believer that facts enable good decisions.

I remember entering foreign countries and doing the van search.

I learned to drive on the left hand side in Capetown, shifting gears with my left hand from the right side of the car, turning the wrong ways down one way streets with the seller screaming at the top of his lungs.

Good times.

Seemed the search was a little stressful but the right vehicle seemed to find me, and when I was leaving the country the vehicle also found the right person who needed it.

Best of luck and remember it takes 2 weeks to just get into the vibe of a location/country.

Vegas I always found weird so don't form too hard of opinions just yet if you run across some wack jobs.

I hope the right vehicle finds you.

All good advice.

Maxine:
  • "wack (or whack) jobs" not= part-time assassination work
  • "wack (or whack) jobs" = crazy, strange people

Gosh, I love you guys. And the feeling that you are taking good care of me, even if you are far away.
:) Thanks :)

I have learned to, not look at people, but mind my own business, but when I do look, I always get a smile and a "knick" with the head.
I have been warned about people from other towns, that they can be mean and that I must be very careful. THAT I find a bit funny, but what, I do it my way anyway :)

Now, I still mean it, if any of you are in the are og Las Vegas, please look me up and lets talk :) I am always good for at Starbuck coffey ;-)
