At one point an old army mess sergeant told me how to make coffee in the field. Put 2 lbs of coffee in a sock and tie the top. Put it in a 20 gal kettle and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and serve. I always hoped that it was a clean sock. If you do not have a clean sock and you do not need to make 20 gallons of coffee, heat water and put coffee in filter and tie top with string (unwaxed dental floss works nicely). Drop filter packet into hot water and enjoy. A large travel mug and a 12 volt immersion heater will work.

Did it taste like old socks?

In the Navy we had extreme coffee....no tip-toeing around...no socks and twice the grounds...20 gallons of pretty close to well used drain oil....but it kept you up for the mid-watch....and beyond and worked wonders when you came back from liberty walking on your lips and had to start making breakfast at 3:00AM....ah the life of a Navy cook in the west Pacific....
Bri
Once I get my rig, I'm planning on installing a Black & Decker Spacemaker under the cabinet somewhere out the way and before I leave my home state of Louisiana, I am going to load up on Community Coffee, which is my favorite brand of coffee

My coffee press is almost as fast and easy as instant but much, much better!

THIS GUY shows how to use a coffee press with pics at the bottom of the page but he makes it look far more complicated than it really is.

Boil water
Pour over coffee in pot and stir
Push in filter
Pour into cup
I rarely even let it steep.

Mine is smaller, for making 1-2 cups. Can be used to make steeped loose tea too. I love it!
I used to grind my own beans but dropped that when we moved into the camper. I still enjoy pre-ground coffee. I can't handle Nabob, Maxwell House or Mother Parker's cheap stuff (unless really desperate!) but I like Folgers. I will sometimes drink instant, but usually buy the good stuff or even sometimes Folgers crystals, it's ok.

I drink 4-6 cups/day.
