Camp Cot/Futon

Anybody build something similar to this and if so what were your results?

I really need something more useful to me that I can also air out the mattress easily.  I'd buy similar if it had storage on the bottom of it and wasn't so expensive!

I like the plastic base.  I like that it can be used as a couch without having to maneuver it in tight places.  I need something firm to sleep on.  Id be interested in the actual dimensions as I can't have anything really more than cot sized(smaller than a twin bed).

Ideas?

I was pretty interested until I saw the $750 price tag.  That puts it into a "well, isn't that nice" category for me.

Hi Headache, I don't know your set up but what worked for me was building a plastic pipe frame (plumbing pipe), added plywood for top, and bought bedding foam (cut to size) at a retail store that also made mattresses.  This way I made it exact size I wanted with lots of space under it for storage, building supplies inexpensive at Menards, Lowes, etc. and I did it myself (old lady). All you need is tape measure, hack saw.  Also best to glue pipes together.  My bed is still together since 2011.  Instruction videos on youtube.

The van wall is the backrest with pillows and cushions....now Think of a slatted base..…It's full of slats.....half attach to the front frame...….
half attach to the back frame...…..the interlocking "Fingers" allow the base to slide open... IN/OUT

Sorry for the late replies and yes I did.  Without incident I may add.  Finally got the IAC replaced and an oil change at my favorite shop in Cedar City, UT.

Cracked pan I wouldn't be able to use plastic at this time. My heftiness would crack those pipes in no time!

I wasn't very specific regarding that cot/futon.  In looking at it more its how the cushions are set up and used that I am most interested in.  At night the big one is flat for sleeping and the little one can be used as a back rest against the wall.  During the day the big one is propped up(and airing out!) while I'm sitting on the small one.

I already have a very sturdy slatted base and I'm trying not to get all complicated.  However, if I make some adjustments to the base I have currently then I believe I can create a useful set up regarding the cushions.

I think with a little creative engineering one set of slats could slide in during the day and out during the night for a wider bed while the stationary slats could be hinged at the wall or raised up and leaned against the wall forming a back for the couch while the sliding slats were pushed in against a base mounted to the wall.

With handles on the storage bins, they would easily slide out like drawers. If you used pvc pipes with a larger circumference, I think that type of frame would hold up someone of our size, especially with gorilla glue.
