That's the problem, we can't afford the interest on the national debt. $37 trillion. One trillion is equal to one thousand billion. US Nat debt is 8.75 times what China's is.
As of December 2023, China's national debt was $4,230 billion, which is an all-time high. This is a significant increase from the previous year, when the debt was $3,750.7 billion. China's debt level has been increasing since the 2010s and is a major economic concern. Very Sad 😭
They say China is lying and not disclosing its real debt numbers, they are huge, supposedly. In China, all state information is fully controlled, they are only stating what they want the world to believe

But US federal debt is only half that of Japan's...

Oddly unlike most developed countries, we goosed the economy massively with deficit spending during covid.

Can't compare to Japan situation, completely different. Too long to discuss here, Lyn Alden has very good articles explaining fundamental differences with Japan and why in Japan this debt didn't lead to huge inflation (so far)

1500 sq ft roof is a mansion...
... or it's a 30x50 metal roofed "pavilion"... which is what I'd do... and build a well insulated 16x32 SIPS shack under part of it, and close in another part for a shed. 30 gal/day should be plenty for you and your livestock, which will need shade and shelter of some kind anyway.

50 miles from declining town isn't going to be cheap now
If 30 miles from a growing and well appointed town is cheap (and it is), then 50 from a dying town will be even cheaper.

The US is the undisputed world hegemon, and manipulates the world's currency and trade at will... been hard core on that project since the early 80s. This isn't happening by accident. Very silly to be talking about, and even more so in a "Buying Land" thread.

There’s plenty of quality cheap land in the US. Just gotta know how to look for it; find it; go & get it.

I learned a lot when I attempted to raise chickens in my van. I couldn’t afford the gas to drive 13 miles one-way to the property while working for poor mountain town wages. I’d go to community parks and let the chickens out to stretch, forage, and bask. Unleashed dog owners would freak out. I had 2 hawk attacks and started putting a garden owl on the van roof when I parked. Then there were fiesty young roos crowing at 5 am while trying to stealth-camp 😵‍💫
Chickens do pack easy, though. They seemed content to socialize & scratch around in the van-coop although they would get so excited when they knew we were going to the park. I’d use a broom, dried mealworms, and a treat ball if I needed to redirect them or summon them back to the van-coop. Plus they understood the routine. As social creatures they understood a lot.
How funny, I'd never thought of this! I will mention that chickens do like red wine and get tipsy. It does make them easier to catch. You can use red kool-aid and vodka, if that's what you have. I had a large fish net to scoop them up with. The Drunken Chicken Dance.

I totally agree that you'll never find a deal on land as you've decided you won't. I expect a deal on everything & will get it. Funny how that works 🥳🤩

*Palmface*

Really amusing that people, who bought way before current price increases and are not familiar with the market, are telling me how to search for land, I had lived, searched and owned places all over this country in the past and my close fam even got decades old succesful real estate business

Going by this thread, looks like I could work some hapless elderly boomer convincing them to sell me way below market beause they dont know how to use the internet, and I had seen this done, but this is not what I would want to do.

That boat of cheap land had sailed in 2020, sorry.

Im just sitting back and enjoying my popcorn watching the market now and not even looking in America. Got 3 citizenships, two of these countries don't allow non citizens to own land, thanks goodness, and will give me free land if I put livestock on it, I can also have free log house on the land if I fix it up. You people aready got so brainwashed that extremely expensive things are "cheap" this is ridiculous, yeah and eggs are cheap too, I know. Good luck, keep drinking that kool aid.
Dont even want to live in the states, not the only country where one can get a place

I know a lot about various US regions land, from being there in person and extensive research over many years, just thought to share it here, thats all.

Kool aid and vodka that's what one needs to believe in "cheap land", a lot of that

I don't care what it is, if you do your due diligence, have patience & believe, it works. I always get a great deal YRMV. I'm blessed & love the thrill of the hunt. I've always had a 5 year plan. Bought a complete working machine shop,63 working machines, spares, tooling & a bobcat trailer for $1500. Gave most of it away. 🥳🤩
