Please stop reading now if you have a sensitive disposition.

One of the issues we've run into over the years is "what do we do with the shit?" you can bag it, you can put it in a holding tank,, if you're lucky, you can have a compost toilet and not have to worry about it for a month or more.

But, in our van, we have two choices: Porta potty with tank or what we've always used, a luggage loo type thing.  Okay, so you can use bags, kitty litter or cedar shavings.  But you still have to get rid of the shit. My question is, have any of you burned it? Like if you make your deposit on a coffee filter and then drop the package in a fire? I've never done that, so haven't a clue as to the results.

Anyone?

We did it on bivouac in the Army, this was the poo etc of many people, all I can say is the stench was pretty horrific... be sure to only burn very far from civilization.

Ummmm uuuummmm uuuummmm!
Thanks! Maybe I'll leave that experiment undone then.

Bury the solids? If the soil isn't concrete.

There are a limited number of options.

I would say you will have a shitty fire. all kidding aside. I have burned cow patties they actually burn pretty good. I have never tried human waste and I will take Queen's word on it. I do have experience with the other one and yes the aroma is rather well lets just say unpleasant. highdesertranger

Yeah I tried it a few months ago. It will burn up, but you need abit of wood to do it. We used cedar shavings and just the big business in a 5 gallon bucket. We got 3-4 days put into bucket before the cedar shavings reached the top. Just poo business. Toilet paper into bucket also. Then dumped bucket into fire pit with some wood underneath for air space, added wood on top and started fire. The cedar chips them selves are not enough wood to burn up the waste. Needed to add abit of wood and "stir" the fire after it burns down. If there's alot of wood around, its doable. Otherwise we would bag it and dumpster it.

Just got my foldable shovel from amazon, it looks like a doll shovel size! Have to get a bigger one, will try burying waste next time we are in an appropriate setting.

I should mention that, once boaters were no longer allowed to just flush into the water, one of the options were incinerating toilets, which are said to be odorless.  These marine toilets are still available.  One such brand is Cinderella Toilets USA. Currently, they are electrically powered, but a propane powered version is said to be available in 2018.  There are other brands as well.  There's at least one YouTube video of a Cinderella toilet installed in an airstream.

If you dry and then burn them, let us know how it goes! I wouldn't even attempt to burn them while moist.

with my luck just as soon as i got the "log" burning the wind would shift and fill my van with smoke,,,,you know the oily kind that sticks to everything

Come on people! This is the freakiest thread ever! Who would even think of burning crap anyway? Holy moley that's gross! Take your crap and throw it in the dumpster, bury it or shit in the woods like the bears and forget it! No burning crap! Don't even think about it!!!!

^^ She's right you know. ^^ Oh CRAP! I wasn't going to get involved here! :p
Frater, when I first saw the title, I thought it was about burning old papers and photos you no longer needed. WOW! That's not Right!

Dried crap was used as fuel for the cooking fires by both the indigenous aborigines and the pioneers on the great plains.  There was nothing else to burn.  If you'd been alive then, Camalu, you would have had to gather it as well as cook over it!

Yeah! Let's all get together and throw on the burgers! Helllllll nawwwwwww

Have you done that?

Critter crap.  Buffalo makes your coffee taste like Kopi Luwac   :dodgy:

Personally I would rather contribute to the cycle of life, than use fossle fuels to destroy it.
