beware of ham radio sales - used

just got burned with a ham radio sale. person who sold me a radio actually sold me something that does not work. the main tuning knob will not adjust the radio. can still use buttons, but tuning is broken.&nbsp;<br><br>also kind of weird but the person would not take PAYPAL and would not take POSTAL MONEY ORDER. &nbsp; am going to see if my credit card company will go after him and get my money back.&nbsp;<br><br>elsethe repair could cost $200.&nbsp;

Good Luck with the credit card dispute. &nbsp;Hope it works out.<br><br>Not accepting Paypal or money orders but they do accept cc makes me more concerned about the cc info than even the purchase. &nbsp;I'd certainly discuss this with the cc company. &nbsp;Also, see if they will put a freeze on future charges. &nbsp;I know they have steps and methods to lessen your exposure.<br><br>Good Luck!!<br><br>-- &nbsp;Kevin

Got my money back via Credit card.&nbsp; but still need to have the credit card company facilitate, which takes forever.&nbsp; Right now holding the purchased radio, until the credit card company advises return.&nbsp; The seller could claim I broke the radio upon arrival, and he has no warrenty on it.&nbsp; yet his advertisement said nothing about NO RETURNS or YOU GET WHAT IS SHIPPED.&nbsp; I had always thought that if something is DEAD ON ARRIVAL the seller should still take care of it, yet this one will not.<BR><BR>Still wondering if I should send it back and take my chances.&nbsp; It just sits in my house.

Offroad;<br>&nbsp;Too bad you got burned but I was glad you got your money back. You don't mention the model radio, but on my HF radio if I engage the tuner lock the knob still turns but doesn't change the freq. Just a shot in the dark. <br>&nbsp;As a side note, was the seller a licensed ham? I personally will not buy a ham radio from someone who isn't. The call sign gives you access to name and address info and I have never had a bad experience from a fellow ham. I also verify a license before I sell a radio. <br>73<br>-Bill-

Keep the radio until you are sure the credit card is ok. Then wait until the fool contacts you, then ask for shipping costs.

bruce - no did not. nightmare continues. shipped it back and jerk claims it is broken on return trip, but shipped via a box shipping company and are now challenging the original owner for attempting insurance fraud.&nbsp;<br><br>this guy is mentally sick.&nbsp;

Ballenxj- two meter radios are $50 for handheld from Baofeng. have one and it works fine on voice repeater, and on packet APRS. brand new.&nbsp;<br><br>yes got money back, but guy says he will sue me for breaking the radio, and for backing out of the deal. guess its all bluff because there is $100 small claims court fee for him to file. plus $100 to pay a sheriif to deliver papers. i have recieved no notice. &nbsp;just hope he climbs back into the hole he crept out of.&nbsp;
