Our group is in the planning stages of traveling to Baja California next winter. We haven’t decided yet if we are doing short trips or longer trips. In the past we have done short trips to San Felipe or Puerto Penasco, medium trips to see the whales in February/March, and some longer road trips down the peninsula to Cabo San Lucas. If you have any desire to experience Mexico, we are open to input. Also if you have questions, fire away.

To save the pundits time, we are all volunteer, safe in our travels (in more than 10 trips we have had no Covid, no Cartel run-ins, no armed robberies, no murders, although on two trips, pairs of binoculars were left out and disappeared and one trip a con artist got some people for $40. We have routes, spots, camping areas and many friends down there already, so save your negativity.

What is the least amount of money you recommend we have? Eg. If starting and ending in AZ or TX

Is the group required to pay for certain things? Do you stay at mostly free sites?
Depending upon what you do, you could do it on $1000 per month. Here are actual expenses from a past partcipant.

This post was from Karylee Harrison on Baja Tour expenses.

Rough #s on my 10 weeks 2 day (72 days) Baja journey.

2250 miles. 10 mpg. $4.20 gal. $945
36 nights paid rent. Avg $10 night. $360
Dr appt. Xrays, and meds. $100
Auto alternator +Battery $230
Whale tours. $85
Parking ticket $40
Tour Con loss $40
Food $5 day..$360
Souvenirs, clothes $75
Immigration paper $35
3 month full truck ins.$260
Art paint supplies $25

Estimate total. $2550. ÷ 72 days =

$35.41 Avg daily for the best time ever. Or $1.14 a mile.

#itinerary

Trying to schedule nomads is worse than herding cats. Therefore, this is a list of stops. It is not complete but covers the main stops. You will run into Tour folks at these stops. People can stay as long as they like at each stop. Certain stops are like Velcro, people don’t want to leave, like Huerta Don Chano’s in Mulege or Playa Santispac just below it.

Itinerary

Each day as Travel is approximately 200 miles or less.
Feel free to comment and propose ideas.

So the group can decide if they want to participate in trips like the whales where 4 or more are required or not but otherwise no.

You are also free to leave the group or stay in an area as you wish.
Hope that answers your questions.

Sounds great! What is best way to keep track as plans firm up? I’m very interested.

We have a private Facebook group called “Baja Tour” that you can join but I am trying to cross post here as well. Around October we will head for Quartzsite/Yuma area.

I looked and there is more than one group with that name. How do we know which is the correct one?

Never mind. After joining another it is from Years ago! Lol

Hopefully I just joined the correct Facebook group.
I speak Spanish and have lived in Mexico on and off for years. I'm a permanent resident. Keep my passport up to date.
On the group I joined it says a vehicle 25ft or shorter. I'm going to go look at a 30 ft skoolie tomorrow. Is that an absolute no? If so I do have my Sinaloa plated Silverado. It's currently in the shop getting new motor mounts so it will be ready for action.
I would love to explore the Baja!
Qué la vaya bien ❤️‍🩹

I can't got over there for a couple of months. Going to be in Chihuahua for a while.
