Hello all:
I am currently taking a 1995 Chevy van and converting it into a stealth camper. Wanted to do it for a long time and finally the time is right.
I have noticed over the years,  I really do not fit in with the RV crowd. I have lived in my 1998 camper for five years now and almost always have to lie about it's age to get into a campground.
When I pull into a new town to work, most campgrounds have a 10 year old limit. I am made to feel not good enough some how cuz I have an older rig.
when I finish the stealth camper I will no longer go to campgrounds.
As I transition into the stealth camper life, I expect to ease into semi-retirement via workamping. I will be posting questions about that soon.

Welcome, Jim. Jump right in, so many knowledgeable folks here to help you out.

sounds like you're picking the wrong type of campgrounds. (more like RV parks really)

State campgrounds say nothing about who uses their parks. They just want their money. :)

Welcome to the asylum!!

Welcome Jim
I've been workamping for about 12 years now in a '76 and '81 model year rigs , and there are lots of places that won't be picky about the age of your rig. I've found the ones that have that rule , I can do without that narrow mindedness and just pass 'em by. Keep looking , you'll find less uppity places !

Some might be put off by van dwelling , others will think it's fine. I've seen workampers that lived in tents.

Sell yourself......they want to know what you can do that they can use at their campground. Do you have any skills like carpentry , plumbing , electrical , mechanical , landscaping , lawn mowing. Have you ever worked with a tractor.

Those types of things are some of what they want.

Security (basically rule enforcement) , snack bar , store cashier , reservations/phones , cleaning bath houses are some of the other jobs they need help with .

Do you have people skills ? Just tell them about stuff like that , other non campground skills and experience will be of little interest to them.
Keep it short and sweet...1 page max.

Include a pic of yourself and of your rig , a pet pic if you have one.

That's about all there is to it !

Hi Jim! Welcome to the CRVL forums!

Jim, you've come to right place, you're going to fit right in here, I think we are all cut from the same cloth.

RVers as a rule are a different group of people than us. But like every group of people you can't lump them together or paint them with a single brush. If you don't fit in with most of them, you will fit in perfectly here, and with with RVers here who are more like all of us.

Bob
