I must be really old, I don't even have one of those smart phones. I have an old Mil-spec Casio flip phone. I have had it for over ten years. it still works fine. highdesertranger

Oh, I remember those from when I was a kid... that Casio is a big wooden box on the wall with a black earpiece that hangs in a yoke... and you turn the crank several times to get the operator?

One positive using apple is the argument of hackers going after the much larger "windows" crowd. I really loved the Pre windows format It was pure and logical but people were not learning the language apple filled that gap and when "windows" was superimposed over that little gem they had.problems developed .

Got a new Samsung phone today.  Called apple and talked to them and they assured me they were doing everything they could to get my apple phone reactivated.  I asked them again if they could ask me the security questions and they said they have to go through their process.  They assured me I would be able to get my data back when the process is complete.  I decided I would rather go ahead and get a new phone and start all over with my contacts.  If I get my data back at some time great if not life goes on.  I won't let this happen again. If you don't know your passwords try to get them before you really need them.

I stopped using anything but apple back in 2005. Got sick of losing all my software just because Microsoft decided to do a "New" operating system and not support back level. It was a marketing ploy to get more money for new licenses.

Anyway. Bought an iMac and a couple years later an IPhone 3. Then an iPad 2.
All three devices are still running. When I had trouble I could use the phone to call for support help. Each new release of the iOS supports all backlevel. Only thing you might find if you keep you phone for 10 years like me, the phone is too small to accept the new level of iOS. So..it will remain back level forever. My iPad has custom apps....no support for them going forward. So..it too will remain back level till I am ready to give up the
At app.

This is the first time I have ever had tech devices last this long..and just keep on going!

Keep your passwords stored in two places. I have a book too. It doesn't have the passwords written...well not exactly. Just enough of a hint so I know what it is and no one else can ever figure it out.

Here I am at 2 weeks and still no word from apple.  Talked to them last week and they assured me I was still in the process of being reactivated.I asked them if they could just ask me the security questions and they refused again.  Sure am glad I went ahead and got a new
phone.

I have a 2004 iPod Photo that I still use everyday. It is hooked up in my truck to play music and audiobooks. It still sync's in iTunes, I can still change out old playlists for new ones, it amazes me. Apple isn't perfect, no company is. I am sorry you are having these difficulties closeanuf.

The clerk who had you keep trying passwords was the real problem, anyone who sells apple products should know better. There were better ways to get your phone data. That clerks foolishness caused the issue, upon set up you did create an iTunes password, putting the wrong one in six times shuts the whole phone down.

Got my phone unlocked today.  I was schedule for a call at 11 AM that I missed, sent email to apple they called me back, the guy that I was talking to had me on hold for 15 minutes and then hung up, emailed them back got called back and talked to a wonderful person who actually helped me.  I told her my story about being run around for almost 3 weeks.  Within 10 minutes she had my phone back working.  What's interesting to me is that she didn't ask me any security questions.  I think maybe I actually got to talk to someone who really knew what customer service was all about.  She said she had heard some of the excuses I had been given on previous calls.

I am glad you are back in business with your information. Modern technology is such a love / hate relationship. It took them far too long, but at least you finally got some acceptable customer service.

closeanuf... you apparently got one of the good apples in the barrel the second time around! (pun intended...)

Good for you.

F.y.i. A neat thing with apple is you can go to settings, then scroll down to safari and click it, then scroll down to passwords. It will now ask for your passcode ( the one you use to open your phone) you will now see all your usernames and passwords

Thanks to youse guys and gals I now can’t get the CSNY “Old man take a look at my life” tune out of my head.  Really?  I need my sleep!   :p

“I've been first and last.
Look at how the time goes past,
But I'm all alone at last
Rollin' home to you.”

This could have already been posted here, I didn't read all of the thread. So don't curse to loudly.

In this digital age we live in you ABSOLUTELY NEED TO HAVE YOUR PASSWORDS STORED.
Now I'm not gonna tell everyone how to, that's your choice but do it!

As a PC repair tech I can not begin to tell you how much TIME is LOST because people have no clue what a password is for the issue.

Do your self a favor and record them!

As a PC user I will suggest Passwords Plus, but there are plenty of managers out there, free and paid.
