I see that a lot (most ?) BLM and state/federal forests allow firearms.&nbsp; I was wondering if it's possible to bring along a few targets or clay-pigeon-throwers and spend some time plinking while camping (?). Is anyone doing it now. Any of "The Tribe" members ?<br>Thanks<br>KinA

Due to the current sky high price of ammo....I'm not wealthy enough to enjoy this sport any more.&nbsp; I do put a couple of clips of ammo through my carry pistol on a regular basis to keep myself fresh and to keep my accuracy.<br><br>If ammo was cheap enough, yeah I enjoy target shooting.&nbsp; Used to live on a sporting clay resort.&nbsp; Shooting clays is a lot of fun.&nbsp; LOL....wasn't so fun to wake up to boom boom, boom boom really freaking bright and early on the weekends when we had some early rising guests.

Yah OG's call em clips got it CLIPS, HEY IM DOWN My ol trusty 22 long winchester lever has bagged me a few meals Rabbits and other vermin edible cheap to shoot as well. My over under "silver snipe" takes care of me on the road.

i always shoot on BLM land it's legal as long as you don't litter, pick up your brass and targets and you will have no problems unless it's posted "no firearms" or "no shooting". if you want to shoot ask the locals where to go there's no reason to put a pound of lead into a clean berm when there's one already full of lead a mile away<br><br>i can't even afford to shoot my .22 right now.... my 7mm rem mag is still $1 a round with me reloading.<br><br>i agree with Tink... another one that bugs me is "bullets" when people mean "rounds" or "cartridges". when i think bullets i think, well, bullets.

I shoot almost exclusively on BLM an National Forest land, and do so when I am traveling.<br><br>While I wont correct anyone for saying "clips", I would like to correct<strong> RWJ146</strong><span id="tinymce" class="mceContentBody " title="Offline" dir="ltr"> in post #6 that BLM and Forest Lands are not "Government land". They are in fact "Public lands" owned by us, the public, not the government and for the most part we are free to do what we want on those lands (within some common sense rules of course) including target shooting. I have been shooting with Rangers standing nearby, none of which said a single negative thing about target shooting on Public lands.<br><br>Using some common sense when target shooting on any public lands is smart. Treat it is YOUR LAND (it is) and clean up your mess after. When I target shoot on public land, I use:<br>- Bio-degradable clays<br>- Pick up all my used targets (paper, cardboard, wood)<br>- Pick up all my expended brass<br>- Pick up all my expended shotgun casings<br>- And I even try to grab as much trash that someone else less responsible had left behind.<br><br>To the OP,<br>Yes you can plink while camping on public lands. Make sure to know the rules for each area first (check with the rangers or BLM/Forest websites), including temporary bans for fire safety and such. You will likely have to travel away from your camping location to shoot though, depending on the rules of each location. <br> </span>

yup it's our land, they may charge us to use it but it but it is ours. <br>also keep an eye out for free public ranges like the one in grand junction colorado, the BLM land on 27 1/4 road. they have garbage cans, roofs and shooting benches.<br><br>

<br>i'm too lazy to use two hands unless it's an acronym, and in the english language capitalization doesn't change the meaning of words. at least i punctuate so it's readable. the ones with no periods or commas i don't even try to read<br>on my phone it automatically capitalizes <img src="/images/boards/smilies/cool.gif" class="emoticon bbc_img"><br><br>anyways back on topic....<br>i just went out shooting a 38 special last week for 5c a round, that's cheaper then i can get any .22lr for. <br>though i don't like them as defensive weapons, on the range revolvers make cleaning up easy, eject brass into bag shoot more and repeat.

Being in New Zealand and all, we have a different spin on the whole firearm thing. I have a decent scoped .177 air rifle stashed in the camper for critters of opportunity, some parts of the country are stiff with wabbits and I shoot possums just on general principles. Another factor is you can't legally keep a firearm in a camper here, campers counting as vehicles not domiciles and as such can only be used for firearm transportation. The sluggy has proved it's worth a few times tho, I do like wabbit and bacon bone stew!

Plinking while camping in Idaho is pretty normal.&nbsp; Pretty much all the areas where everyone shoots in this state is BLM or Forest Service land.&nbsp; As for ammo prices, 22 is still ridiculous, which I find odd, but all my other guns, including my 5.56 AR are fully restocked ammo wise now.&nbsp;&nbsp; Check&nbsp; out www.ammoseek.com which specializes purely in finding cheap ammo around the country, and sells none of it itself, but allows you to order to your hearts delight.&nbsp; <br><br>&nbsp;I would say if your going to do clay pigeons be careful as littering can be a big deal, even if you get ones that decay fairly fast you can make a mess pretty quick.&nbsp; I stick to pop cans, milk jugs and paper targets, but I also know places nearby where I could shoot pigeons if I wanted too.&nbsp; <br><br>&nbsp; I suppose the state makes a huge difference on this one, things I do normally up here would be seen as crazy in Kalifornistan.&nbsp; The other day I strapped my desert eagle onto my leg, my 380 in a holster on my hip, slung a shotgun and my AR over my back and jumped on my ATV and rode thru town then out to the range in the desert.&nbsp; No one even looks twice really, but if I even lived in a big city in Idaho, I imagine I might get a police escort from time to time lol.<br><br>&nbsp;I had to come back and edit this as I forgot to jump in on a comment farther up.&nbsp; When I'm arguing with an anti-gunner I might make the distinction between a clip and a mag.&nbsp; But most the time making that distinction when the general public has grown up with idiots on tv calling magazines clips is just banal.&nbsp; When I mention my AR to my mother, who isn't anti-gun but is sorta clueless, I sometimes have to call it my 'machine gun' so she understands which rifle I refer too.&nbsp; I swore a while back to just mess with peoples heads that I would start calling them clippie-mags just as sort of a character test.&nbsp; People who would correct me would either be overly sensitive pro-gun people, and people who simply agreed with me would show me they were clueless before I got too far, making it much easier to judge them early rofl.
