I'm likely hitting the road soon and am looking for income options. Just curious if anyone is making money this way. I know that you can't (or at least I can't) make money on adult sized afghans due to the cost of yarn and time involved, and I suck at making sweaters and such, but still...

baby blankets, extra warm hats, scarves, web surfing snugglies, and super warm slipper socks are things that I can do, and in the high quality yarns that you pretty much only see in yarn shops. I have been making these things for years as Xmas presents, and am now considering making them for sale.

Opinions?

I am ...a crocheter. Well trying to as I work pretty long hours at the moment. We have a few people here who do just that.

Unchained,

My aunt, a farmer in Culpeper, Va. made extra money for many years crocheting and sewing baby things like caps, sleep shirts, and other small items. She had a relationship with a local store that would buy and resell anything she made.

Here is a site with good ideas and information for you.

http://crochetingforprofit.com/

Bob

rvnetwork.com (Escapees) has a subforum for working from the road and also seem to have a fair number of crafter type folks on some of the sub forums. Just FWIW.

My grandmother used to make oversize christmas stockings and sell them in a local crafts store. (and give them to all her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, etc.)

I have had some success with selling knitted stuff. I think an etsy shop Iis the way to go. You can sell from anywhere, and with a PayPal account getting paid is easy. I have a Paypal debit card that makes the money available immediately, and love it. I also just got my account set up with "PayPal Here". I have a little device that plugs I to my phones headphone socket and can swipe credit cards for purchases. It goes directly into my PayPal account, and is available seconds later on the PP debit card. It has opened up a whole new share of the market for me.

My etsy shop is not currently open. I had too many back orders to fill to keep it stocked. I hopeo be caught up before the holidays.

Small stuff is a food way to go. I knit mostly hats and wrist warmers. Don't take up much space, and ship in small envelopes.

Thanks, everyone!
I knew about Etsy, and am considering opening a shop. I do jewelry, crochet, knit (only can do with a knifty knitter), some leatherwork, and have made some very cool decorative quilt tops...
Hmm... might need to find space in the van for a sewing machine along with the yarn and leather tools
