Adhesives

Wanted to introduce you to my three new best friends.  Loctite spray adhesive, high performance.  Loctite fast grab premium, construction adhesive.  And the notorious Bondo body filler. If you don't like drilling holes into your sheet metal, like me, then I would bet my life on these products.  I have used the Bondo to fill holes, spray to attach insulation, and fastgrab to frame in my floor.  I also plan on using the fastgrab to frame the walls and ceiling. I will still use bolts on any planned load bearing structures (like my hammock), but for mere cosmetics, these are my friends.

Loctite makes good stuff.

Also check out Liquid Nails products. They make a wide range of adhesives for all sorts of materials.

Can you use this stuff to attach a sheet of insulation to a sheet of paneling and then use it to directly attach this prefabbed insul/panel to the interior metal side wall of a van? The reason I ask is that I have no ribs in my van to support paneling..... Hey Ziggy, I read through your thread.  I similarly was trying to maximize the space in my conversion van after pulling out the custom paneling.  The Loctite spray adhesive could work to secure insulation to paneling.  Because of curvature in the van wall I don't think any adhesive between the insulation and sheet metal would be wise.  The tension would probably pull and tear the insulation from the wall (eventually).  Instead, I would secure a couple of 2x2s (as lumber goes these are closer to 1 3/4 x 1 3/4) or 1x2s vertically using the Fast Grab.  You can attach them directly to the outer walls.  They would give you extra ribs to secure your panels too.  I included a pic of where I secured a 1x2 directly to some sheet metal in my van using the fast grab. 3m 5200 is king, can be found at some homedepot and lowes stores.  It can be ordered from lowes website. PL is probably good enough and cheaper.  Make sure you follow the directions on all adhesives.  For example many can't handle uv rays and would be a bad candidate when exposed to sun.  Or using alcohol to clean a surface before applying 3m 5200 is a big thing NOT to do.
