So when my bed is open the plywood extension rests on this little shelf.

Very happy with how this has turned out.  Once I get to where ever I am going it only takes me about 10 minutes to take out bike & cover, put up curtains, and pull out the bed.

I still want to figure out some inexpensive way to have an awning or screened in area off the side of the van.

Although I know it is not the idea solution, I did buy a GoalZero Yeti 400.  Bed Bath & Beyond had it on sale and then with a 20% off coupon & free shipping it made it worth while to buy.  Later on I can do something more permanent with an electrical system if I want.

No, not full time.  Just long weekends in the summer exploring New England.  And planning a 2 week trip to Nova Scotia in August.

Looks like your van is working well for you. I'm curious if the Yeti 400 is doing what you need it to do? Glad you were able to get a deal on it. Sometimes we get caught up in trying to build the best mouse trap possible. But I've been thinking about portable power lately where the same system can be used for a variety of purposes. I just did a 1400 mile trip last week in my work truck and cargo trailer conversion. It was plenty comfortable and I can bring my tools etc, with me, but I sure would like to have a more efficient set up when I don't need all the tools.

So the Yeti will power the fridge for about 24 hours.  While I am driving I plug it into the cigarette lighter, & when at a campground I plug into power there.  So it is working well enough for my purposes.  If I were really living in my van I would figure out solar recharging etc. The last modification that I have lined up is a custom window for the right rear quarter panel.  Again if I head better power all the time I would have done a ceiling vent/fan. But an opening window by my head while I sleep is going to be nice.
