I am a year out from living full time on the road, in the forest, in the desert. I have learned a lot from all of the posters on this site. Thank you all for your generosity of spirit and wealth of information.
I have started a blog (truckcamperhints.com) and you can see that food and storage and house batteries seem to be my main focus at this time. I have driven to South America in a Bronco, have driven and lived in Central America in an old pick up, but have not spent much time in the USA. I was saving that for my old age.
The old age is here and there are many places that I want to see.
I am hooked on rockhounding and meteorite hunting. Not that I have ever found a meteorite or a valuable rock. It is just fun and to satisfy obsessions.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions.
Thank you for being here!

Hiya Woody

Driving South America would be a kick!!
I've got several friends who are rockhounds and into different minerals...lots of fascinating stuff out there!!

Sorry about the old age, though....it happens to the best of us!! :D

Thank Patrick46!
There are great joys with the age, also. You are smarter. You have lots of experience to draw from. You don't care what other people think of your attire or attitudes. Etc. ad infinitum.
Driving to South America was easier than you might think. But that was in 1969, so I don't know what regulations are in place now.

hello and wassup woody I have heard meteorites are often found after a forest fire the meteor hits a tree in the forest and lodges inside until a fire dis-lodges it. Good luck I have purchased a few through the years.

Thank you all for your kind welcome. I believe I may be too much of a hermit to go to Quartzsite, but it is on my list to do if I can get up the courage to be around so many people.
Thank you all

I'm never a worst case scenario person but I'm sitting here thinking about the odds of a meteorite hitting a tree and setting a forest fire and a meteorite hitting me in the forest and then me exploding. How big is a meteorite I wonder?
Just can't get this out of my head.

Welcome Woodycreature

The meteorite hits the tree in 1948 before you are born then in 2011 a fire burns the tree allows the meteorite to fall to the ground.

GET IT??? IF YOU DO NOT LET ME KNOW ......Please

I feel sorry that you have problems around crowds. I know what that is like. I can't hardly get to go anywhere. I was miserable going to my son's house for thanksgiving and just told them forget Christmas. This time of year makes it hard for me. I can't hardly go to the store for the crowds. One trick I use is to listen to music I am familiar and comfortable with on an MP3 player.Sometimes, the crowds and noise get so bad I have to turn the volume way up and just get out of the store. I think some of the stock people must hate me for leaving the cart piled up and just running off like that.

Thank you for your support, DTFuqua. It is so nice to hear that I am not the only one who has problems around crowds. I tried to get over it by living in India for 7 years. That didn't work. So now I just avoid hordes of people. I think that the solitude of boondocking has enchanted me. The solitude is what I am looking forward to the most on this next stage of life.

Thanks for your welcome, Papa. Love your website. Lots of great info for a newbie!

ha that will never happen lucky to find one the size of a walnut, go to sleep with peace of mind

I usually go to the grocery store in the early morning, just to avoid the crowds.

CANNOT imagine what people see in stampeding stores on Black Friday!! The pitiful savings would never be worth that scene!!! YUK!!! :p
