If you want to mount something on your roof without drillng holes, the trick is to bolt the brackets to another piece with a much larger surface area, and then VHB or glue that down.
That gives me an idea on how I'm going to mount the controller and inverter, since I'm mounting both to the underneath/side of the bed of which there is not quite enough room. But if I use ply to create a larger surface, that will work. Thanks:)

arm chair quarter backs can fiddle and postulate. but when a 50 pound solar panel comes off a roof at 65mph, people can die. are you will to kill the driver behind you to prove the manufacturer is wrong?

I wouldn't use 3M to attach anything to anything, except in combination with mechanical fasteners. There are too many ways the stuff can fail, even if it is strong. I was going to use 3M to attach my controller and inverter to some plywood, but I changed my mind. I don't have enough confidence in 3M to even handle that lightweight job.

For my project which is attaching sheet steel to sheet aluminum I called 3M and told them my plans and they suggested the exact # of the tape they recommended and they also suggested the adhesion promoter I needed to use.  I was very happy with their help and they could not have been more pleasant to deal with.

That’s how I lost two panels. Truck wash
