Damn, hmmm, so what size engine should I look for that will have umph for the hills and not suck the gas? Where the hell is my inner mechanic when I need him?!?! Chuckle.
 
Virtually all class C's are going to suck gas. If a class C fits your style I wouldn't let poor mpg stop you as they all get poor mpg. Either plan not to drive much or get a car to tow.
 
I live my little C-Class home...its just 2' longer than that, very different floor plan but looks about the same condition.

I am fine with the gas mileage... or lack thereof *smile*. I love to travel although I personally got a bit weary from the bohemian way of things & wanted a nice home.

If you drive it at a reasonable speed (read slow, but not unsafely so) you might find it doesn't suck nearly as bad...these aren't the most aerodynamic rigs for sure.
