The early Ford EFI had the ignition module on the distributor then later it was moved to a heat sink on the fender so it would stay cooler.

It is very easy to relocate the module. IIRC you need a fender mounted module and matching distributor from a later year truck with the same engine. Or there's some aftermarket kits that sell you the heat sink and you splice in some wire to extend the wiring harness.

HOneybug, thanks for the feedback.  It really helps to share info about common vehicle problems.  Finding someone who can truly diagnose the problem with older vehicles can be a challenge.

Dear HOneybug, I have a 1987 E150, It's a Great Van. I bought it from a retired school teacher who had aquired it from a friend. Now the teacher gave his bogous mechanic about 1.5K over a period of time to replace Oh this and that and the other thing. Namely one primary fuel pump which is found to be mounted to the frame. then two gas tank fuel pumps, one for each tank, eventually The fuel tank switching unit (Very expencive) and of course the fuel filter which I am shure it needed. The teacher was fed up and woulden't put another dime in it so he put it out by the road and sold it to me. I drove it for a while and shure enough it would just quit running at will. After a little bit it would go again. Now this is one of those things that make you go Humm... I wonder if that stupid mechanic never thought to check and make shure that the gas tanks were clean. So I took one tank off and shure enough there was rust in the tank. It was a pain getting all that rust out of there but I did it. A strong vinegar solution, Wire brush, Power washer, Good rubber gloves or just buy a new tank or two. you should be able to pick them up off ebay should you need them. So Here is the deal when you have a dirty fuel tank, The fuel pump screen in the tank gits pluged with all the dirt that is sloshing around in the tank. when the engine stops the rust/dirt drops off the fuel pump screen and you can go again untill it picks up the dirt again.,,, Mugwah, Your friendly backyard mechanic.

When they had previously looked at the fuel selector valve they noticed there wasn’t a screen and added one. The van vomited has and ran like crap. We don’t know whether the replacement part has a screen or not.

Next test run the weekend of the 9th...hoping she doesn’t have anymore problems.

my 87 E150 5L 302 Econoline came with a 21 gal tank at the rear of the car and a 18 gal tank mounted along the frame I took away the 18 gal tank and only have the 21 gal tankand did away with the tank switching valve, I find that the 21 gal tank alone is sufficient. You could get a couple of fuel line connectors from any auto parts store and Hook them up to the feed and return line to one of the tanks and bypass the tank switcher altogether should you feel the need to do so. Also most any auto parts store employee is happy to connect there OBD 2 code reader to your vehicle in hopes of selling you the needed parts giving you a free analysis.
