I understand how to run wiring from my 120v bus to outlets for 120v products like a blender or tv.

When it comes to 12v thought I'm a little confused. If I have a 12v bus I get how to run a live & ground wire to a light & boom, light. But if I do the same concept but instead to an outlet with only a live & ground (no neutral), then connect a laptop & charger (which has a step down already), would that work? Would it take in the 12v & say hey I only need to step it down a little bit & work?

Do not wire 12V to standard 120V AC household outlets. Use standard 12V outlets for 12V devices.

Your laptop charger is 120V (should say right on it) and not a 12V charger. Get a car charger for your laptop if you want to use 12V to charge it (best option). I use a car charger to keep the losses in conversions to a minimum.

no, you can not mix 120 volt (ac ) and 12 volt (dc) at best it wont work, at worst someone gets electrocuted. with lots of damaged stuff in between

12 volt appliances need a 12 volt source/outlet. 120 volt appliances need 120 v source/outlet

there is no neutral in 12v. only positive and negative always make sure you wire the polarity correctly, DC(direct current) is unforgiving.

use 12v outlets commonly called ciggy outlets and ciggy plugs, for anything that charges off a USB plug 12v USB outlets are becoming quite common. use those.

finally there is a huge difference in quality with 12v stuff. I use marine approved stuff, I like Blue Sea System products.

I like Ancor wire products,

Hi, what you're asking in the above sentence is much the way current works (measured in Amperes).  Voltage , in this scenario, is limited by the device producing electricity.  A device PULLS current based on it's needs.  Someone will probably correct me, but that's basically how it works.

Please, please do NOT start wiring things until you get further education and /or help from someone who knows what they are doing.  Electricity can be extremely destructive.  Think "burn your rig and yourself" destructive.

I wish you success,

Pat
