Diesel Option Coming to GMC/Chevy Vans 2017 Model Year

I wouldn't get too excited about this just yet. When we bought our AWD Express in 2014, the dealer said that since the 1500 model was being dropped, all future express vans will be sold only to fleet customers. Read: you must purchase 5 vans minimum per year.

2014 Chevy Express 2500 Van Build: Luisafernandes

Sorry. We let the domain expire a little bit ago. I updated the signature, but apparently all our old posts didn't get changed automatically. There should be an updated link in the signature for this post (hopefully).

    insulating ribs

Regarding vapor barrier: We have everything sealed up with foil tape. Almost 2 years of fiberglass batting and spray foam in our van, zero problems with moisture being held in (as far as we can tell). I mean, if moisture is that much of a concern, you would have to also worry about the van...

    insulating ribs

Here's what we did, it was pretty quick, easy, and cheap: https://aimlesswanderlust.wordpress.com/2014/09/09/insulating-the-van-part-5/ Summary: Vertical ribs were stuffed with pink fiberglass insulation. Floor and ceiling ribs were spray foamed. The spray foam was a little slow going, being...

    What is a "Solar Generator"?

Like many have said, yes, it is a terrible name and just for marketing. The yeti1250 is just a 100AH AGM battery, 1200 watt pure sign wave inverter, MPPT charge controller, and various ports and outlets all in one package. There is no power *generation* without adding solar panels or other...

3/4 - 1 Ton Express vs 1//2 Ton AWD Van

Oh, since apparently I forgot to specifically say it, we do indeed have the AWD, 2014 Chevy Express 1500 AWD. We bought it brand new shortly after the announcement of discontinuation, for fear it would become a unicorn. It was pretty much the last one on the lot, and most dealers usually only...

3/4 - 1 Ton Express vs 1//2 Ton AWD Van

We have a 2014 Chevy Express 1500 cargo van, lifted ~3 inches. Absolutely love it.  Here's my opinion on a few of the items mentioned in this thread, take them how you will: We get a very solid 15MPG the way our van sits right now. No real difference before/after lift. But the ride and...

    Crocheting blankets

Just a thought, as I've been looking into selling handmade things on Etsy as well: made-to-order things take up the space only briefly as you're making them and then they're shipped off. And people may be more inclined to buy hand-made things when they can specify exactly the colors and fibers...

    Roleplaying Games & Nerdy Stuff

I'm not quite sure what qualifies as "out there," but internet from our cell-phones (3G/4G) is plenty good enough to support any of these games. So, anywhere we have good cell-service we can play.

    Roleplaying Games & Nerdy Stuff

We've done a little bit of D&D and Vampire, but that's only because we're stuck in one place for jobs. Otherwise we are all about the MMORPGs: WoW, SWTOR, and Rift; not to mention Hearthstone (not an MMORPG). And then the things you can play on the computer offline like Portal, the Final...

    Musical instruments

One of these days I'll have enough money to put towards a weighted 88-key synth. *sigh* I dunno if it'll ever happen, but I'd like to be able to play whenever I want rather than only when I'm visiting relatives.

    White cargo van stigma?

It certainly is an established stigma. Sure, it's crap, but it is explicitly taught in our "culture of fear" (thanks Bob). I remember my mother telling me never to go near cargo vans, especially white ones, with no windows... ahem. Also to be afraid of any man alone, particularly homeless ones...

Olympian heater and Carbon Monoxide Detector?

They're so cheap, why risk not having one?

2014 Chevy Express 2500 Van Build: Luisafernandes

Propane, as well as any hydrocarbon fuel, is just a long chain of carbon and hydrogen (the length of the chain, ie the number of carbon and hydrogen atoms in the molecule, determines what fuel it is: propane/butane/etc). Combustion breaks up this molecular chain, and in our atmosphere...

2014 Chevy Express 2500 Van Build: Luisafernandes

Even ignoring the price tag, to me it just looks like it is too huge for a van... 10 inch diameter, 25 inches tall, requiring 30 inches open space above, 6 inches clearance all around the sides, and a whopping 12 inches clearance behind it... And then there's the minimum 60 inch tall flue pipe!

2014 Chevy Express 2500 Van Build: Luisafernandes

A couple days ago, when it was -7 degrees overnight, we caved and bought a Mr. Buddy heater. We used it that night. In my opinion, it didn't help very much. Even with the roof vent open a crack and the front windows open a crack (like we always have them, even without a heater) there was so...

    Moisture Under The Mattress Problem!

We tried the hypervent stuff... Total waste of $80. In fact, after only one week it started molding.

Replacing wired SURBURBAN heater thermostat with conventional house one?

When we lived in our hard side truck camper, we replaced the analog thermostat with a digital programmable thermostat made for a home. It had it's own AA batteries to power it's clock. Worked perfect. Only 2 wires to connect for the RV furnace. The programmable thermostat has like 4 or 6...

    Small woodstove project

Anybody know if it's possible to make a wood burner out of something really small... like a coffee can? Something that could be used safely in a regular van? Just burn little twigs...

    Moisture Under The Mattress Problem!

We had moisture build up under our mattress when we were living in our hard side truck camper. We did have the furnace running 24/7 (well, it would cycle on thermostat) keeping the temperature around 60 degrees. Heating the place made no difference. The problem is that there isn't enough air...
