Experience with a Berkey Water Filter System

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006X7NKVK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Doulton Super Sterasyl Ceramic Filter Candle is another option for these filters! I don’t see as much use for the tiniest Berkey filters, since you have to break it down for travel anyway you might as...

    Haircuts

Lots of folks looked pretty shaggy or were sporting the dreaded “COVID Cut” with everything locked down last year! I decided to learn to cut my own hair start to finish and after watching several good how to videos on YouTube I jumped in the deep end! The goal was to look about the same as...

    Spare key?

With the metal keys I’d always put one behind the tag by running one of the tag’s screws through it! Never lost one nor was it ever found by anyone else! In your situation I’d consider a RFID blocking bag. They make very small ones for credit cards that should work. I’d likely heat seal it...

Eye Glasses while on the Road

I carry my script in my phone and once had my glasses stolen! Likely picked up by mistake but results were the same. One hour optical, but holiday so I went back next morning. They did a good job quickly! SD

    Rattle snakes

Letting your dog learn about snakes with a good sized nonpoisonous snake is really helpful! Most dogs will learn how they move, how they fight and how quick they are! Oh and a big one is what they smell like! Doing so will teach dogs how to avoid getting bit in most cases. My wife’s dog...

    Crap, Chiggers.

Oh I’ve been told eating a bit of sulfur every day will make you undesirable to all sorts of critters, but I’ve never tried it! SD

    Crap, Chiggers.

Powdered sulfur mixed with talcum powder (Rusty memory says 50/50, but I might be off. I used it 100% last several times!) dusted on yourself will keep them off. We use to dump a cup or so into an old sock, tie the end and use it as a powder puff inside our socks and pants before going into...

    Favorite Ramen Recipes?

Going back to my days at university I’d do one pot meals with ramen. Generally start with boiling water. Add handful of rice after it’s somewhat cooked add in chopped onion and carrots. Once it’s cooked within 3 minutes of done you toss in the noodles and flavor packets. Once it’s within the...

    Best container to transport water?

http://lexingtoncontainercompanysonlinestore.mybigcommerce.com/military-water-can/ I’ve used their fuel cans a lot more often than their water cans, but they’re both well made of a very sturdy material.  I bought the black ones per recommendation of a long distance sailor who mentioned that the...

    Carbon Monoxide Detector

I think any place you could get CO you should be running a detector! As an aside the ones ment for wearing in industrial settings are more sensitive in my experience and since they’re designed to clip to you would likely work better in a van! SD

    Beating the heat

‘The deal is that with high humidity there is very low evaporation which is where the best cooling comes from!  Yes putting your head under the hose will cool you, but you will not get the extra of evaporative cooling.  Working in high heat high humidity has you pretty much soaking wet anyway so...

    Beating the heat

If you’re in a dry climate putting water on yourself really helps.  In hot wet places not so much! As mentioned shade is a big deal.  Another thing I’ve not seen is acclimating yourself by staying out of air conditioned spaces for the most part.  A week or two of 80-90F with a fan you will...

    SOLAR CHARGER FOR AA, AAA's

It’s been a few years since I bought mine so technology has likely changed a bit, but I went with a USB type charger and plugged it into a largish folding panel that had USB output. Every one of the “solar chargers” I looked at for AA & AAA batteries took forever to charge. SD

    The Most Quiet Fans

I like a little white noise from a fan so I might not be the best person to ask, but I’ve found the Endless Breeze nice and have use the DeWalt battery powered shop fan even more with a high degree of satisfaction! SD

    Front hitch for turning around?

Set up cones in an empty parking lot and practice until you can back through them! I’ve also used large cardboard boxes. Learn to put your trailer within inches of the boxes without hitting them and you should be able to get into and out of all sorts of places! Oh an skip the front hitch! SD

    Keeping warm

Good advice so far! https://www.wiggys.com/ Makes very good USA made bags that will keep you warm.  Over buy a bit for your area if you’re car carrying it.  They make a good pad too, but there are other good options too. Nalgene bottle full of boiling water stuffed in a wool sock will keep you...

    Military Supply House Mattress Reviews?

Used them twice so far! First was 4 twin XL beds at the cabin. Good advice on bed for multi adult body types! 2nd time was for me! He asked what I was using it for, how much I weighed, how tall I was ect! I had dimensions I had to meet, so he suggested a few things I should think about and...

    Butane availability

Sam’s Club was my last source! Local Walmart generally has it too! I tend to buy it when I see it if I’m running even a little bit low. I use it daily when working and find it a much better option than propane! SD
