Turn off the frig/freezer at night?

So I am in my third night of full time RV'ing. I have more experience on sailboats where it's pretty common to turn off the refrigerator (ice box style) to conserve battery power at night. With an RV it is running on propane. Does anyone shut off their refrigerator/freezer to conserve propane at...

    Netflix now offers downloads

Good news for nomads that have wifi access. Netflix offers downloads for a lot of good titles. I think it only works for mobile devices; Cell phones and tablets. It's a nice addition to entertainment options that we have.

    The Peace of wild things

Wendell Berry When despair for the world grows in me and I wake in the night at the least sound in fear of what my life and my children's lives may be, I go and lie down where the wood drake rests in the beauty on the water, and the great heron feed. I come into peace of wild things who do not...

    2015 Chevy City Express

I frequently look at my local credit union for repos. I bought a really nice touring motorcycle for 50% off the MSRP a couple years ago. Well, I was looking today and there is a 2015 Chevy City Express. It's similar to the Ford Connect in size. The bidding starts at $16k and it has 1000 miles...

How do you fill your free time?

Hi, just wondering what everyone does for hobbies. Since we live in small spaces many hobbies aren't possible. I tinker on the guitar, I plan on buying a mountain bike, I read quite a bit. I find that it is a little tough filling 16hrs of free time. Thanks

    anyone considering mexico?

On one of my early retirement forums someone posted this: "We're currently spending a few months up at Mexico's largest freshwater lake, Lake Chapala in the State of Jalisco (only about 45 minutes from Guadalajara). We lived here full time for about three years and are currently Tucson-based...

    The American Dream

A funny thing happened. I had my RV worked on. I drove around the block with the mechanic to make sure the sensor was repaired. We started talking. He has a wife, two kids, and just bought a house. The American dream. I said that I'm single. I just sold my house, bought a 22ft RV and a...

    Confused about inverters

I have a motorhome and I'm doing research on solar. Most of Bob Wells articles are on van conversions and the inverter has 110v outlets. So for a motorhome you already have 110v outlets, how do you wire it into that system?

Hi, just looking for 12v fan recommendations. I have a 22 ft RV. I want one for the overhead bunk (not too loud) and one for the cabin.

    Do I need solar?

This might be a stupid question....So I just bought a 2001 Coachmen Catalina Sport 22ft. (Ford Triton V10 with 43kmi) that is in great shape. It has a OnanMicroLite4000 generator with 250 hours. I'm switching all the lights to LED's. I will charge a 7" tablet and a cell phone every day through a...

    Itasca Sunstar-need opinions

I need opinions on the Itasca Sunstar. It was made 2002-2004. It has a VW chassis and V6. Reviews say it gets 14-18 mpg. I'm thinking more around 14. From what I have read, VW dealerships don't want to service the powertrain because it is an RV. RV dealerships don't want to deal with it because...

    6'4" and looking for a B class

I'm 6'3 and single. What are my options for standing up headroom?  I would need 6'4 headroom for a class B. Any recommendations?? I spent 2 weeks in San Diego, car camping in a Honda Element. It was fun but as 6'3 it wasn't sustainable.

    Sprinter lease

I just saw an advertisement to lease a Sprinter. I didn't know you could lease a cargo van. $500 per month. This might make sense in a high cost of living area. Thoughts?

    Limo tint in SoCal, Problems?

Hi all, Anyone doing sleeper camping in Southern California? I'm thinking San Diego.  Any issues with police and dark tinting? I have a Honda Element, should I get darker tinting, reflectix, or homemade curtains? Thanks for any replies.

    Want an Element

Hi everyone, I found the forum a couple days ago and have really been soaking everything in. For some reason I have the idea of a Honda Element stuck in my head. I love the versatility and would even like to keep it as a daily driver if long term vagabonding doesn't work out. I have two cars to...
