car vs van vs rv

I think a lot of it depends on where you plan to be parked. When I first started out I had a Rav4 pulling my motorcycle on a trailer and I lived in a huge portable dome that rode on the trailer with my motorcycle. I couldn't have handled living in my car. It would have been too...

    Dot Pull Over? Weight Station

Funny story. When I was a truck driver my private car was a tiny little 5 speed rollerskate of a car. On my way home from our OC it just so happened that I had to pass by a weigh station on the interstate. I'd been out for 6 weeks, and didn't even think about being in my...

Dirty Cloths, where do you put them?

My camper van has a compartment underneath the 'closet' cubby that is obviously for dirty clothes, but it is at least a couple of square feet in size and I don't want to take up that room with dirty clothes. I plan on doing what the others suggested, except I do it a bit differently.&nbsp...

How to cut your own long hair

Here where I live a ladies haircut is $30 and up! That is just way too much! I wear my hair in a ponytail and just want the length shortened...nothing fancy. Still $30. So I ended up finding this cool tool for cutting my own hair and I've been using it for a year now and...

    Too many clothes?

I buy clothes about every other year. I buy 3 pairs of longish blue jean shorts, 3 pairs of blue jean capri pants, 4 sleeveless shirts and something with sleeves. By this time I have worn out everything I bought 2 years previously. Every 4 years or so I'll buy 2 pairs of full length...

    firearms storage?

I just consulted with my ex that is a federally licensed gunsmith. He says that the way to do this is to have it cleaned at a gunshop. There is no requirement to do any kind of background check to get your own gun back after having it cleaned or repaired. Of course you will...

    firearms storage?

You might try calling gun shops in the area.

Also, depending on how long you need to store your weapon, pawn it! It should be very safe there and nobody will ask any questions.

When I go to Mexico and I haven't had a chance to come back by the house, I generally...

Trying to get out with limited $$$

I'm afraid I have to second what Creationode said. For a brief time I lived in an RV with my children and I came back to the trailer one day to find a business card of a Childrens Protective Services worker placed into the door. If ever you are in that situation, DO NOT assume that...

Where do you keep your tax records?

I have thought numerous times about scanning this mountain of...ahem...papers, but I didn't figure the gov would accept copies. If it is acceptable to give copies and I don't have to have the originals...I'm going to have a heck of a scanning and shredding party.

Any recommendations...

    5 gallon lids getting off?

I either use the tool or put on gamma lids that screw off. The only way I know to make regular bucket lids easier to take off ruins their seal. Extend the slits up, but your lids no longer seal really tightly.

    Howdy y'all!

I may have to start a blog. LOL...or at least a webpage with a homing beacon on a map! The first question my friends ask (after asking how Jake the schnauzer is) is where are you now?!

I love to write and I'm hoping to be able to do more of that once I'm on the road and...

Roll Call-----Where Are You Headed June 2013

We're heading on the same route A Leaf in the Wind!

I'm hoping to be able to make the meet up near Flagstaff, AZ and then I'll be heading to Wyoming. I'm not sure yet if I'll be coming back to Texas before going to Mexico for the winter or not, but probably.

    Summer RTR 2013 Schecduled

I may be able to make it. Depends on when the new mattress for my camper van gets here. That will determine when I leave west Texas.

Is it really so hard to be honest?

This is one reason that I deal with individuals selling vehicles rather than car lots. I still get a lot of the chauvinistic nonsense, but I just ignore what they are saying and check out the vehicle. Occasionally I'll bring a guy so that the seller has someone to talk to while I'm...

    newb question

I second the advice about water damage. That seems to be the scourge of RV's.

This is strictly a personal opinion, but I'd rip out any dinette that is built in. Danged things are uncomfortable and take up lots of usable space that you could instead use for kitchen...

    I LOVE Lowes!

I don't shop at Home Depot because of some of their policies. Love Lowe's! As far as employees are concerned...they are just doing what it takes to stay competitive. I'm sure here shortly, if not already, that they will do what most everyone else is doing and drop employees...

    Budget motorcycle luggage system

That looks very similar to some factory cases I had on a Suzuki GS 1000. Talk about a monster bike! I could have moved half my house in one trip on that thing. Had a big windjammer faring on it that I could put my purse, pistol, mag-light, dogs water bowl, a map, some tools to...

Soap Nuts .... for Laundy Not TV

I got some soap nuts from Lehmans. The instructions say that you can do 3 loads of laundry with the same 5 soap nuts. It didn't work that way for me. The first load of clothes I was pretty happy with, especially since I'm chemically sensitive. There is no odor put into...
