New chick - no idea what I'm doing

Very nice setup you have. That was the setup I was originally going to go with until I decided I wanted to have my bed indoors in-case of extended rain or cold weather

    It's time.....

Never a good idea to burn your bridges, Might look into getting your sister or a storage unit to store your most treasured items or furniture while you try the van dwelling life style. You can always sell them later if you decide that is the life for you. If not you still have them to use...

    Hello

Ok, Yeah you will need something to sleep on in the back of the Uhaul, I think it will be ok to take the mattress off your bed to use and see how it goes. I would wrap the mattress in something as the back of those Uhauls can be dirty and you wouldn't want to ruin your mattress.

    Hello

"If i wanted to test this for a few days say monday till friday  can i just take the mattress from my room and put in in the back of the cargo van and travel around atlanta getting a feel for what it would be like to do it full time?" I'm not trying to be mean or anything, but if you are asking...

    Van or Trailer

I decided to go 4 x 4  and bought a Jeep Wrangler to tow a trailer,  cargo trailers will not go to the places I want to go boon docking and the price of a manufactured off road trailer was to much, ($30,000-$40,000) so I decided to build one myself. Much cheaper and better built. I like the idea...

Swamp coolers do not work too good where the humidity is high, Like the east coast in the summer, they work best out in the dry deserts of the west. I have used them before but you need a supply of water for them that might be an issue.

    Solar, lighting and more.

If your going to have your battery under your front seat or inside the van for that matter I would get a sealed AGM battery as they do not vent hydrogen gas when they are charging, unless you make a sealed box with a vent to the outside then you would be safe using flooded batteries. I wouldn't...

Don't Park Your Van Just Anywhere

That is a very good idea, have the media there to film the van-in event, Let the general public see first hand what nice people van dwellers are.

    Define "Full time"

Like I said, who cares what you are, full timer or what ever. What is this fascination of classifying everything? Just enjoy yourself if your living this lifestyle either full or part time. Stop worrying about things that do not serve any purpose.

    Define "Full time"

If you have been a full time van dweller for a few years and take a job as a camp host for a few months do you have to go back to zero and start over again on your start date of becoming a "full timer"? I guess it is important to some people if your classified as a full time van dweller or a...

    Solar, lighting and more.

I did a quick search to build you your 300 watt system. Everything you need to get started, 3 100 watt 12 volt panels, 30 amp MPPT controller cables and adapters. You will still need to purchase a DC/AC inverter, (Pure sine wave) and the cables to go from the MPPT to the battery and from the...

    Solar, lighting and more.

I was checking out some 120 watt  12 volt panels on ebay. Going this route might be a better option for you and cheaper, unless you have your mind made up on three hundred total watts, With two 120 watt panels it would be much easier to wire them in series for a 24 volt system and keep the amps...
