    Living out of a Semi

I drove OTR for 7 years with Schneider National in the 90’s. It was great for me then because I was single and in my twenty’s. I saved lots of money then went local hourly for another 5 years with another company out of Baltimore. I’m sure things have changed quite a bit since I was out there...

Hard knock life - harder than thought

He seems to be saying what some of the veteran van dwellers say here all the time. "Keep it simple". I have family that are avid boaters and it's the same deal a whole lot of maintainance.

    GM express vans

2007, 3500 van with 6.0L engine. This van is used as a electrical service van so the mileage age is atrocious, its loaded with thousands of pounds of tools and materials. I also keep a 4, two 6's, an 8, a 10 a 12 and a 28' extension ladder on it so you can imagine how aerodynamic it is. So I get...

    Mac Mini on the road

If all your doing is surfing/email/pics/video an iPad would serve you well. I have a Mac mini and love it. It's very flexible and fairly easy to hack. I've taken mine completely apart installed a dual drive kit with an SSD for better performance. It's good for multi media. You can also get an...

    Rest Area's and Truck Stops

When I drove truck in the 90's I tried to avoid the rest areas (especially in New England) had one too many run ins with weirdos. I would always prefer to go to the shipper or receiver and park in their lot if I could. If not then I looked for a grocery store lot to park in. Truck stops tend to...

    Make it ‘Fit’ (Honda Fit)

LOL....I'm just thinking how my wife dreams of traveling the world with $ we don't have....Fiji, The Caribbean, Europe and South America. She complains about her stick in the mud husband that wants to live within our means. Meanwhile your sketching on post it notes your plans to live in your...

    Car carried rooftop tent

Looks kinda cozy but I think I would want to pull the ladder up and put it on the roof over night but I'm kind of a security spaz, not that you would have to worry about it if you have a pit bull down there.

Do they make trucks big enough these days?

There is a lot of commercial construction going on in my area and most of the laborers drive beat up Civics and ancient Toyota pick ups. the tradesmen (electricians, plumbers, HACV, and etc...) show up in full size cargo vans w/ ladder racks. The only guys I see in pick ups are the...

Thinking of buying a utility shell for a stealth/adventure vehicle camper.

I loved this thread, I too drove truck (for Scheinder National) for 7yrs in the 90's. They had a no idle policy so I'm very familiar with cold weather sleeping. We were allowed to idle if the temp went below 0 (for the truck's sake not ours). I have woken up in 7 below temps before. That being...

How do we ACTUALLY make money!?

I think most folks have some kind of pension or at least social security. The rest are working and stealth camping. They only need but so many campground hosts and such. Personally I've been trying to figure out how people can work over the internet. Everything I look into seems to be a scam or...

The pain and joy of getting rid of stuff.

I wonder if thats why the average size of homes has gotten so huge compared with 50y ago. In my neighborhood everyone has 1 or 2 car garages but when you see inside them they are full of junk not cars.
