:D  First off, thanks for this forum and all the great advice on how to escape the city life. My name is Jill, Im from Huntsville AL and I have a year to learn all I can about Rv life. My main obstacles are...... 2 cats and a small dog. I am looking forward to traveling with my little Molly, my 10 yr chi-poo, but the cats I rescued several years ago Im not so sure. I dont know if its fair to them to live in a moving vehicle.  One would be ok with anything as long as he gets to eat, the other one is a freakball and is afraid of everything. My mom is 86 and is still in good health, lives alone, and I could drop them off there for a while but she is 86 and will one day get to go to our Heavenly home which leaves me to one day have to figure it all out.  Im going to be working for the next year, reading everything I can, looking at all the options of a vehicle,, altho I am leaning towards a vehicle and towing something on the smaller size but not too small. To all you other newbies, we can do this! I have gotten mixed opinions on the matter when talking with family and friends but I dont care what anyone says, Im doing it altho' Im praying someone will go with me at least to start out and I do have one taker, she told me yesterday she wanted to go look at RV's/campers too. So, Thats about it. Thanks ya'll!!!

Welcome Jill to the CRVL forums! To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips, Tricks and Rules" post lists some helpful information to get you started.

Most of our rules boil down to two simple over-riding principles: 1) What you post should provide good information (like your introductory post), and 2) Any response to someone else's post should make them feel glad they are part of this forum community.

We look forward to hearing more from you.

lots of folks here travel with cats, ask around you will find lots of advice.

Hi Jill,
Welcome to CRVL, and thanks for the encouragement.
I'm a newbie too, I'm just starting to get out there and get my feet wet in my nomad life.

jillybean  :)  good nickname

Welcome Jill.. about a year ago I was right there, dreaming and learning. Now I'm living in my van, emptying my apartment in my spare time. I've been in the van over a month now. Well worth the wait.

Welcome to the CRVL Forums Jillybean   :)

Has a year passed already Travelaround ?  You've made some progress  ;)

Jillybean,  let me offer you to view my two websites below.  Since you are looking to tow a rig some of the small 5th wheel
trailers may be worth you looking at.   I met a guy and his wife who owned a small Scamp and were towing it with a Chevy S-10 4 cylinder engine.   And they were able to fly down the road with it as it was so light.

The real advantage here is that you can park it in a campground and go tour in the
tow vehicle.   Then return to it to spend the night each night.  (each night in a motel
may cost $75 to $100 dollars....so the cost of the 5th wheel (say $4000 used) would
be offset by 40 to 55 nights staying in it.  Prepping your own food would save even
more money when on the road.  Free camping sights abound. (see the lower website
of my two)

HI and welcome

Many hit the road with cats and do very well :)

but the one cat you seem might be tough to deal with on the road.....you have a year.....find a good permanent home for that cat, start now and get it done. If the cat might be miserable, your kindest thing is put the effort into finding a great home for the cat :)

if the other cat is cooler and can handle, yup, take that cat along. You can leash train a cat easily and if that personality fits van life then take this cat and go for it!!

if you can find some friends or whomever to hit the road with ya, very cool.....go hit the road and have a blast!! enjoy the freedom.
