Just had a bit of a panic attack.  What am I thinking, going off alone into the desert?!?!?!

7 days and counting until I leave.   I can do this, I can do this....

It's just a little unnerving, boondocking alone.

I did it last year solo. You’ll be fine. I hope to leave tomorrow and it will take me three days.

A few years ago, as I drove out of my driveway in Texas, heading to Alaska just me and my two little dogs, I was literally shaking.  Four months and 10,500 miles later, after two flat tires and a busted windshield,  I pulled into the driveway a different person.  You can do this!

Repeat... You can do this!

It was a momentary freaking out. Back to packing up the house. 7 days and counting!

I think it's the change of destination that threw me for a loop.   Had planned on Ehrenberg, and now not sure where to go.  I have a few ideas, but kinda lost now.

Hi Gypsy,

I'm pulling out this week too and planning on going to the BLM land near Lake Havasu for my initiation into this life. It is only a short 2-3 hour drive from Vegas. Worried more about how my little furry girl Bella is going to do on this journey. Won't be a long drive into Quartzite from there. As they say, one day at a time.

Safe travels.

You can do it! There's lots of women around! I'm a complete newbie this year and made my way from New York State to Arizona in a Mini-van!

Not sure if you've already considered this, but the Long Term Visitor Area isn't such a bad place, especially for newbies. They will probably let you take a tour through if you want to check it out. For some reason it gets a bad rap, but I've found it quite pleasant.

When I landed in Quartzsite I ended up springing for the 40 bucks for 2 weeks at the Long Term Visitor area. I did also check out Ehrenberg. I'm a newbie this year, getting more confident as time goes by...but the LTVA gave me a safe place to land. I ended up paying for the rest of the season. There's quite a few women here that are planning to go to the RTR, just in my little area there are 5 women camping in vans.

Good luck!

Mary Ellen, I'm at La Posa South LTVA. I'd love to swing over and meet if you can tell me where you are out here

Gypsy Spirit where are you coming from?
I'll be leaving Silver City New Mexico on January 1st. First stop is Lordsburg New Mexico, free camping right near the 10 (no dirt roads). Let me know if you or anyone else wants to caravan to the RTR at a leisurely pace. Lots of free camping along the way.

Gypsy Spirit - I'm right there with you. I'm 65 and making my maiden voyage on Jan 9 from Albuquerque to the RTR. I can't drive the whole 8+ hrs from here so I'm leaving around noon on the 9th (after therapy LOL) and I'm a little nervous about it all. I waited until late in the season to get things started so I haven't been able to "sleep" in the van as yet. Put a thermometer on the bed in the van last night; when I got up at my usual 430 and ck'd it was 20 deg! Wayyyy to cold for me so I'll have my first sleepover between Abq and Flagstaff I guess altho it'll probably be cold there as well, hmmm well it is what it is ... I'm looking forward to getting there as I've been planning, thinking, visioning this for a few years now. Look forward to meeting!

RV-hopeful - I've been fixing up an old travel trailer and haven't slept in it yet either! I'm nervous to leave the comfort and security of my home. I've never towed before and I'm nervous about that as well. But the excitement and anticipation of the RTR keeps moving me forward.

I'll be boondocking mostly. I'm using an Olympian Wave 3 heater. I also have a mr Buddy heater as back up.

I'm in Silver City New Mexico. Too bad you're leaving so late, we could caravan together! I'll be leaving on the 2nd and traveling at a leisurely pace. I want to get there on the 9th.
See you there!

I'm in the Phoenix area. I've been delayed by a couple of days, hoping to be there on Wednesday or Thursday. Had an issue with the floor of the trailer from some earlier water damage. Am replacing the floor rather than risk falling through it, and that requires taking most everything out. That and emptying the house just took it out of me. I need a day of down time before I repack the trailer.

Confetti, I'm happy to PM you my address if you want to park here before heading out Ehrenberg/Quartzsite/Parker and other points west.

All you single women have this. Once you get out here for a few days or a few weeks you will find older women who have been doing this for years, before Bob's site was here to walk them through and help them network.

Hey neighbor! I'll be at the Purple Gypsy Spirit rig tonight...they're having a sacred fire starting at 6PM, everyone welcome. You can't miss the rig, as you enter La Posa South they are just past the Contact Station on the right.

I'll PM you.

Mary Ellen

Hoping to be there on Thursday. Had a glitch in the plans, be there as soon as I can! Purple Gypsy Spirit? There's another one of me? LOL

It's a rig that came and parked near us. They were drumming last night. I threw rocks but they didn't quit for awhile. They are communing with the earth or some woo woo thing. It's not appreciated by their neighbors.

ohgodohgodohgodohgod....
I head out next Friday (wish I could leave sooner and spend longer.. but I only have so much time off available..) to land at RTR about the 15th for a few days..

we did an overnight test-camp this last weekend.. but .. heading out into the unknown.. for a long stretch.. yeah..

Me too!  6 days and counting for my departure.  Having work done on the van today and then I can start packing it and organizing it.  Still haven't slept in it as it's just too darned cold at night but I'll have to on the road.  Nothing makes it work better than having to make it work!  chuckle ...
