Winter 2025 weather outlook January

57 here in Picture Rocks now with cool breeze and gusts up to 11 MPH. A little cold for me but I need to get my 45 minute walk in! Lol!!!

LOL I'm a couple hours west of you waiting for the warmest point in the afternoon to have mine, too!
I was out for a few minutes earlier today and I think this is the coldest day so far this winter. Uncle Google says its 57° here too now. It's actually been squeaking a couple degrees below freezing the last week or so. Jeez, tough life. I can remember years of my life when I thought a degree above freezing was balmy and we didn't see the ground till almost May for the snow.

I am usually in the panhandle of Florida this time of year, and there is no escaping this storm system anywhere down there,

But, I sold my rig and (mostly) retired from the road last year.

Was -4 at 4am here this morning. It is sunny and temps up to 4 degrees now at 9:15am. There's snow on the Ohio River now, so it's frozen over. Cat is in the laundry room covered in scrap bed sheets with just a bit of her tail visible. (guess that's her "do not disturb sign")

Weather man on TV says it may hit 25 today and dive to 12 tonight.....then start slowly warming into the high 30's. (if that's warm)

Been some time since we've had a January like this. Weather man says last summer was the hottest on record and this summer may be hotter.

According to current climate projections, 2025 summer is likely to be hotter than 2023 summer, with many experts predicting it will rank among the top three warmest years on record, though potentially not as extreme as the record-breaking heat seen in 2023 and 2024 due to the waning El Niño effect; however, the overall trend indicates continued warming and increasingly hot summers due to climate change.

Temperature has gone up 30 deg since last night & a little snow tonight & tomorrow then sunny and about 32 deg highs for the rest of the month

Been some time since we've had a January like this.

Definitely a cold Jan in NM (glad I'm not there!), but Dec was very warm, so it kinda evens out...

Listening to the News & Weather report earlier and they were calling this a "generational weather event". (at least the first largest in this century)

Ohio River iced over & snow covered just below Huntington, WV at Ironton, Ohio. This doesn't happen very often.




Huntington, WV Police Dept River Patrol Boat sunk in this cold weather blast. (not sure but some suggest the bilge pump froze and was unable to pump out any water seeping in)

Also that some 40 water mains have broken in the large cities of the area and the WV Capital. This image near the local University.
